I have been looking for a 700 R4 for my 71' c10. I just got word that a friend of a friend can supply the tranny and build it for me for $500.00.....is that a good deal? (He is reputable builder at Young Chevrolet, a local dealersip))

Sounds good. I'm looking at $800+ to replace the one in my '85 silv. I cracked the case during a Mudding excursion.

thats pretty good

mine cost me around 1100.00 for the trans to have it rebuilt with all new seals/filters/gaskets and converter plus installation because i did not have the time

That is a good deal.
Does it come with any kind of warranty? (Through the dealership?)

Also - might want to make sure it will handle the HP you will be making now and in the future.

Wow! thats an awesome transmission.....I have pretty much gotten over goin' fast.....My dragsters are retired! I am building a mild 350 hp 350. I want to drive it around town on Sundays,get a burger and do a burn out. I will some day go w/ an Lt1 but thats down the road......of course if i'm gonna go w/ the lt1 then the 700R4 won't be used. I think w/ my hp being around 350 a stock 700 would work. What do yall' think?

I got my 700r4 for $250....then had a High Performance rebuild on it for another $1300. It should be good for at least 450 HP though.

Sounds good to me too, but just to get everything on the table I'd ask what happens if you get it in and it either doesn't work right, or it goes bad within a year.

If you're performance minded, now's the time to consider a stall converter. If you stay with the stock one, be sure you flush it out well.

Finally, make sure you have an 88 or up model, or that he's loading in a few of the usual heavy duty upgrade parts it needs. It'll be worth any extra cost in the long run.

make sure to use a good 10 vein pump and BEAST sunshell. 87 and up 700s are recognized by a rainbow in the casting around the cooler line connections. The thing most dont say is that the dragstrip is easier on trannys than daily driving
