Post will a 350 bolt right up to an original 6 cyl 3 spd tranny.

I bought a 350 in place of my original 6 cyl. I was wondering if anybody knew if it would bolt right up to the tranny without any problems? Thanks for your help Brian Wolf

I think you can also use the flywheel(230-250),but I think the 292 was different balance.......69 longhorn.

longhorn, you mean the old GMC 4 cyl engine like in the COE trucks ?

always have wondered about the 292, i keep forgetting to find out if the 292 are internally or externally balanced, IE if the dampner is solid like on the Sb400 and 454 engines or hollow like on all others, technically called a harmoinic balancer on internally balanced engines, and called balancer on externally balanced engines

hmm.... anyone got a 292 to look at real quick ? i think i recall having different casting number n my 292's flywheel(manual trans) than the 305/350 wheels i had around at the time and have on the 350 in the 71

Will bolt to the tranny fine but you will need to fabricate a bracket to attach the pivot ball on engine side of z-bar ( bell crank) for clutch rod. That and a extra spacer between fan and shroud to get fan into shroud for proper cooling will be the only to mods required to install motor and drive away.

If you are mounting on 6/250 position, you can use a screw in pivot ball in the block,in the foward hole, then use all the V8 clutch linkage. You will need to redrill the holes for the frame bracket(set the bell crank perpendicular to the block),then lenghten the bottom clutch rod........69

No, I'm talking bout the 2.5 that came in Camaros, Firebirds, S-10s, Citations, Celebritys, Monza and pobably a dozen other cars. They ran this little motor all through the '80's.

Do you have to worry about the pivot ball if you are keeping the 3 speed but changing it over to a floor shift? I will be doing the same swap in a couple weeks (knock on wood). And what kind of spaced do you need for the fane? Could you not just buy a shroud from a BB truck to fit over it?

Before they were called the 4tech, they were refered to as the iron duke. I knew a guy use a 4 speed out of a Monza, and install it in an inline '75-ish truck.

Dubie, dont use a long spacer for the fan.....I planted one into the rad that way!(6800 rpm shift,& the fan/pulley,& pump hub came off the shaft). You can use a 4x4 shroud,or go to the 73 up pump & accessories. On the pivot ball, use a screw in, in the foward hole in the block(for V8 on 6/250 position). You will need all the V8 clutch linkage,& set the bell crank up perpendicular to the block, then redrill the holes for the frame bracket. You will also need to lenghten the bottom clutch rod. A set of 69090 headmans will clear(use 69092 if mounted in V8 position). I have done 3 swaps on 6 stands, if you run into a snag.....drop me an e mail........69.
