72 Jimmy to Blazer conversion

I have a 72 Jimmy, but I want a 72 Blazer. Other than the fenders, grille and headlights, how much more is involved in this conversion?

Re: 72 Jimmy to Blazer conversion

Radiator core support, front bumper, bumper brackets if you go with 71-72 front bumper, fender emblems, and horn cap.....lol WES

OH, and weld up the holes in the hood when you remove the GMC letters.

Re: 72 Jimmy to Blazer conversion

Thanks for the quick replies. I've already ordered bumper, fenders, grille. Didn't know about the bumper brackets. How are the grille supports connected to the radiator core support?

Re: 72 Jimmy to Blazer conversion

Depending on the grill you use you will need different brackets. You want 72 style chevy grill, right? Then different brackets are in order.71-72 style chevy front bumper brackets are different than 67-70 chevy and 67-72 (I think) GMCs.Tailgate too,or get trim covering the GMC up.

Oh,and Wes,I started off typing and got disctracted on ebay by some 67-72 GM rear tow hooks (as they claim)..then when I finished I seen you replied..

1967 to 1970 Chevy Bumper brackets are the same as 1967-1972 GMC. The 1971 and 1972 Chevy's are different. WES

Don't forget the glovebox door emblem. My 72' K5 said "CHEVROLET CST" I assume the GMC's would be different.

The light harness is very easily changed though. Just take off the second set of pigtails for the headlights.

I agree! I kinda scratch my head & wonder if someone wanted a Blazer/Chev, why didn't they buy a Blazer/Chev? It makes me sad to think that there will be one less Jimmy out there - all though - the value of mine just went up! I bought the Jimmy because it was a Jimmy. Hopefully someone can use the Jimmy parts you plan on replacing. Good luck!

No, it's about what everyone likes......I am evening the score. You are changing the front clip from Jimmy to Blazer....I am going the opposite way. I have a registered 69 Blazer getting a face lift to a 71-72 Jimmy.

LOL yah guys, that is an unheard of conversion!

Seems like most put a 67-68 Chevy front end on em, and Bama51 is going with a 72 Chevy, so that at least is a different conversion altho they were actually produced.
I don't get upset like I used to over this, and to each his own. I just think If you take away the identity of what it used to be, it should be called what it now is! What it says on the title means nothing after conversion in my opinion. It is just a matter of what each person enjoys!

Have fun with your soon to be Blazer, Bama51

Later---DAC

Re: 72 Jimmy to Blazer conversion

Thanks, everyone for the input. FYI, the reason I'm changing is that I have been searching for a reasonably priced 2wd 72 blazer, because that's the model I have always liked. In my area, there are very few 2wd blazers out there, and those who have them, are very proud of them ($$$$$). I found the Jimmy for a decent price, and it is original 2wd with front discs, so I thought, "Hey, I'll just change it over". Hope this doesn't offend any Jimmy guys too much, buts it is about personal preferences.
