Looking to buy 67 swb. WIW??
No pictures but here is the story. I have seen this truck running around town since I was a kid and have always wanted it. It is a 67 2wd swb, original wood bed that has broken pieces but it is the original wood. It still has the origianl trim that has two small dents above the passenger fender that could be fixed and repolsihed. The passenger fender has a little rot below the battery tray, the drivers door has a small amount in the bottom that would be a easy fix, and the tailgate has a small amount of rust above the tailgate handle. The cab corners and rockers are still rust free. The paint is faded but no surface rust on the truck. The top of the windshield frame has no rust. It is a none air truck, the guy has owned the truck for the last 17 years and has took damn good care of it. The truck has a 283 and a rebuilt th350 and he has driven the truck as a dd for the last four years. I would rate the body as a 8 out of 10. If the truck was took apart and had the frame and under side painted and had all new paint on the exterior and new interior job plus new wood in the bed you would have a show truck. I would probably put a GenIII motor in the truck and a 4l80 or 60. He is asking $5000 for the truck. Does this sound out of line? I will probably drive the truck for a year or 2 and then tear it apart. The truck has the dealer sticker on the bumper that still says where it was bought new.

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. Its hard enough finding a short bed that is in good condition let alone a 67, 68. I would pay 5 for it but by all means you gotta try to talk him down Anyway good luck.....

Re: Looking to buy 67 swb. WIW??
I would say, for sentimemtal reasons... Buy It! you've always wanted it, if you can afford it, go for it... Keep in mind about these trucks. The rockers, cab corners, & cab supports may be good today, but, if it's like all that I've bought, they will be starting to rust shortly. Also, when you do go to redo the truck. Have the bodyshop or person doing your work do whatever possible to clean and seal these parts of the cab. If there is any inititial unseen rust deep inside, it will explode in rust after painted and sealed. I have had 3 rust free cabs that I did not do this with. Once painted, the rockers and corners started rusting within 6 months. and the cab supports started after about 1 year... So much for my rustfree cab purchases.
Maybe some bodyshop professional can elborate on this. Anyways.... Nice find, I personally would just clean up and redo what you have 283/TH350... but that's just my personal preference... I like the classic style left in these myself... Sounds like a nice truck. I don't remember the last time I saw an un-redone 8 on a 10 scale truck for sale... I guess that's the difference between South Dakota and Alabama. Good Luck...

I think the truck sounds like its worth it. If the body is an 8 out of 10, Then the time and money saved on finding good body parts mean alot.

get off the computer and go get it! its hard to find a dd for 5k. this is a classic and you have always wanted it. these trucks are going thru the roof and swb are getting stupid! and i guess i kind of favor the 67 model. just my two cents worth. matt

Re: Looking to buy 67 swb. WIW??
I am going to get it, I called him today and told him I would bring him a $1000 to hold it for me. I am trying to sell my zero turn so I can go ahead and pay him. I have a idea in my head about putting the ttII's off my blazer on it and the disk brakes. I think I may put the factory a/c out of my blazer on it since no one wants to pay more than $200 for it. The paint is faded out on the truck and I kinda think it will look pretty sweet with the 20's on it, kinda like the shop truck thing that is in right now. I don't think I am going wrong with the truck since the body is in such great shape but I wanted some opinions on the subject. When I go pay him the holding money I will try to take some pics for all to see.

Well I made the purchase today, I will get some pics up ASAP. The old truck runs and drives good but I am for sure gonna put some disk brakes on the front.

Re: Looking to buy 67 swb. WIW??
I have had my money offered back 3 times today. My buddy that owns the hot rod shop said the paint would probably wheel out and shine pretty good but I kinda like the weatherd look. What do yall think, buff or leave it the way it is?

Re: Looking to buy 67 swb. WIW??
I am going to drive this one for a year or 2. I am going to convert it to 4 wheel disc and put the 20's on it for now and drive the fool out of it. Then in the future it will probably get air ride, GenIII motor and a 6 speed and all the other goodies. I have to get the blazer done before I can tear this one apart. I may tow the blazer to shows with this truck and show them both in the future but that is way down the road after the blazer is done and the truck to. I would like to keep the truck where I can drive it and not worry too much but it still be a super nice truck.
