VIN and cab swap and New fuel for Calif 2009
One of the most funnyest things i hear now days is swaping vin tags. you Know the 1967--69 camaros now have a full body swap and the sub frame is harley ever used they get One of them new Fat man Mustang II front ends and so on.
Now days the DMV could care less The one you have to worrie about is your INS Program Like Haggerty the worlds Biggest Insurer of cars trucks and clastic Boats and race cars. Now DMV knows that most of the cabs on the road to day that are 40-50 years old are not the same from what came on there.Dmv just want to make sure the Lic and the Vin tag match Here in Calif where we don't have a Car or truck Inspection program there is no Problem's. Now in other states best to cut the vintage off the old frame it will be on the driver side about a foot before the bumper mounts to the frame Horns. But most of the time i've seen cops get more mad at people not telling the DMV what Color the truck car is now.Ive painted 3 muscal cars and did not tell the DMV and had one stolen. Yes there looking for the plate but DMV has on record what color your truck and car is . But the vintag can be swaped along with the frame ID number or just refill the old serial number on the frame and grind it smooth and restamp it. Now there are a few holes in some of my data. But here in calif a change is comming I hear they are changing are fuel agian and adding more Alcohol and that means the engine will be running at hotter temps. So any one running with out fuel injected and running above 9.1 your engine wont last. plus with Zink being pulled from most of the motor oils the lubercation will be cut in half The US goverment wants are old cars off the maket and off the roads so its a dieing Idea to build most of the cars out there cus it will cost to much to Run them. But i'm a guy that just spent 10K on my 1972 3/4 ton work truck it will last me for the next 15 years i hope |

Maybe I'm wrong, but doesn't alcohol actually burn cooler than regular pump gas. I have a buddy with a blown alcohol injected small block that can run all kinds of boost because of the alcohol.......down side is that it usually takes twice as much alcohol as it does gas to accomplish this.
As far as the oils....have to keep using diesel oils or from what I've been told, many "race only' oils still have the products in to protect those cam lobes. I imagine Royal Purple and Redline are also still good choices but definately spendy!!!!

Royal purple has the Zink... I think they are the only ones other than diesel oils.
The feds aren't the ones that got the ball rollin on the zink thing, it's all the OEMs. The zink causes ash, which clogs catilitic converters. The OEMs have been begging the feds for a long time to do this, the feds finally agreed. Chevy small blocks went to rollers 20 years ago... so most of the non roller engines are in fact off the road. Jim is right about the alcohol, it runs cooler. |

I know what you're saying. I went to put my dad's old tent up the other day getting ready for the board meet, and when we couldn't figure out how to get the sucker up, i realized I haven't seen it up since the summer of 88.
I remember my girl friend at the time sneakin outta her house and 'campin out' with me in the back yard... seems like just a few years ago. |

All I run is rotella T for oil. I have liked it for a long time. As far as I am concearned the lower case oils like penz, and others of that ilk are no good. Race only oil is too spendy. Diesel oils perform great, and stay clean. I think. I have a power stroke with 125000 miles on it. Change the oil every 3000 with rotella T. Can still read the dip stick through the oil at oil change. Thats clean. Same can be said for my 91 GMC with 130000 miles. My 71 only has 1000 miles on the 454, but I will bet the same results.

rotella is one of the best mineral based oils. The Zink levels have been dropped, as it has in all diesel oils, but it still has plenty in it.
That's what I run in my stuff too. |

im currently running rotella and plan to keep doing so, and i also started running shell gasoline instead of the arco crap and not only does the gas smell better im pretty sure im getting better mpg also and alcohol does run cooler and cleaner

Even if motor oil's ability to properly lubricate will be 'cut-in-half' (which it won't) by the removal of zinc, it will still be far better than any motor oil that was available in 1969.

the removal of zinc will cause the flat tappit cams to wear faster

yeah bob, the oils in the 60's, while not having most of the additives, and not being multi viscocity, they had plenty of Zink which let the cam live. Now most of the zink is gone in the gassoline oils and non roller cams are getting worn fast.

Older oils contained sulfer also which is used as a high presure lube. It is still in some gear oils. I think I will switch to Rotella when my 402 gets together.

Look at it this way, at BP, in my little Escort gas tank, I get 31 free miles with the BP gas. To make a really long story short, pay attention to your mileage. It could pay. It does for me. OK. You're wondering why I still buy Holiday gas. They have the powerball macine. When it is my turn to buy numbers for our "club", and I need gas, I fill up there because it isn't worth my time to get across the highway to get down to BP. One more thing. I don't work for BP, Holiday, SA, or even in that industry.
