New to site, need some info.

Hi guys, new to the site and i have to say I enjoy what I'm reading and seeing. I recently purchases a 69 c - 10 shortbed. It drives now but I'm gong to restore it. It has a 350 W/ a 4 -speed Saginaw I believe to be from a car. I'm going to use this truck to tow my 69 z 28 when finished. I would like to stay with the manual setup. My help needed is what type of manual were in them originally, and what is my chances of finding one. Or what is best to use for the towing part. Also has a 12 bolt with high gears. want to go lower and make posi. Are these 12 bolts the same as the cars, cause I have some, and what kind of ratio should I go with. Sorry so long, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks'
Mark

unless you are looking to make it original. for what you are wanting to pull i would in my opinion rebuild that saginaw. they are strong. maybe not as strong as the original 4 speeds which i think were Saginaw's not sure.. but you have more usable gears for what you are wanting to do. better fuel mileage and drive ability. original 4 speeds in these trucks could pull a house over in first gear which is great but not real usable unless you are pullin alot of weight.

First off to the board and on the new truck purchase.

And your post was not long IMO this kind of question is what this board is GR8 for.!

You know how you are going to run your truck the most but, I would suggest something in the mid three's 3.42 or 3.73's.

I'm not personally up on what trannies came in these truck factory but, I'm pretty sure the saginaw came in them as well as the granny gear four speeds both. Either will hold up with mild towing IMO. Just don't abuse them. you should be able to locate either also.
