front end swap

I've got a 70 c20 that i"m looking to convert to five lug and start the drop process. I'm wondering if I can swap a newer front crossmember in from another chevy or GMC to get my five lug pattern. IS the width any different? What problems will I run into down the road with this setup.

Re: front end swap

73-87 C10 should be almost a direct bolt in

Re: front end swap

no width issues.

it is a 90% dirrect bolt in. you will need to drill one hole in either you frame or the upper a arm mount[its upto you] and you will need to dril or mod you motor mounts to sit the motor in the same spot.

the way i did it was i used the 73+cross and motor mounts. i was able to get the motor mounts to line up and only needed to waller out 1 hole on each. BUT that pushed my motor back 1" which affects at the tranny crossmember and drive shaft possibly.

if you just move the mount 1" forward and redrill the frame and cross member it will be fine. i dont know what you would have to do if you reuse the ****ty post style motor mounts.

Re: front end swap

You should be fine doing it like this, the only snag is swapping rearends to get 5 lug.
