66 Fleetside license plate bracket

Will someone please post a picture showing how a 66 Fleetside rear license plate bracket is attached to a stock non-step bumper?

Thanks.

I think they are just usually bolted right through the bumper.

You can align the plate to the metal strip under the tailgate, then mark 2 locations to drill holes for the plate, then bolt on. Then attach bracket to the bottom holes on the plate, this is how I did mine.

Brawley, I know this is a old thread but I have seen you post lately. So I know your still around..lol. Would it be possible to get a picture to see how your license light looks mounted how you described? This is how I'm thinking of doing mine. Thanks !

Re: 66 Fleetside license plate bracket

This picture is not really close enough to show the details, however there are two square holes in the flat portion of the bumper and two holes in the lower portion of the license plate bracket. I have installed several of these brackets and had to insert a spacer on the underside of the bumper and the top side of the bracket, in order to get the bracket low enough for the license plate to clear the bottom of the tailgate.

You can also drill holes in the cross sill to accept the bracket, however I don't like drilling holes in factory sheetmetal, so I do it as explained above. The spacer ends up being about 3/4" long to allow the license plate to clear.

I hope this helps and good luck with your project.

Re: 66 Fleetside license plate bracket

sorry Bazooka but I have since sold the 65' , and now have a new project it's a 63'. To be honest unless you just want to have the license lights ,I would not use one, just bolt it straight thru the rear cross brace-unless you don't want holes in it.

Yea, thats what I ended up doing. I just took some masking tape and taped the plate in place so I could stand back and make sure it was dead center and level. Then marked the holes and drilled them out. looks good. I might just get a frame with a light in it or some of those license bolts with lights built in to them... The cops here will pull you over for that. The motorcycle cops here are the worst.. Must have a light for the plates..

Thanks everybody
