Re: Can I get a Pic?

Let me know if you need any better shots, I have the front clip of my 68 right now. That is majorly hacked looking, I suggest finding new front spring hangars (DIY4x4). I wonder if it was a converted 2WD to 4WD?

Re: Can I get a Pic?

all you have to do is look at the hangers. If they are bolted, then it has been converted. If riveted, then it is stock. On the front I am saying.

maybe true...but I had to remove some of my rear hangars and fix rust so they are now bolted.....

If it's a large piece of welded angle iron like yours = converted Do you have pics of the rear of the springs?

Re: Can I get a Pic?

Yeah I have pics of the rear.

Also I really want to do something different with my front clip. I don't like that big piece of angle iron.

Re: Can I get a Pic?

well, not sure where you want to go with it but here's some things I see compared to my 68 K-10.

1. rear shocks are outside frame instead of inside like stock
2. I see your spacer and wonder if they added a different axle, thus the spacer and shock issue
3. Those front shackles are not stock, but don't look to bad on the frame.. ORD sells HD shackles for $45. FYI stocks are 4" on center
4. I would try finding some from leaf mounts off another truck and bolt them up, if the frame is in good shape...

How does the truck drive, did you just buy it, know the history?

Re: Can I get a Pic?

I wonder if they used a dodge axle. Some of dodge d44 axles were a little wider wider at the springs perches.

Well I bought it about 2 months ago. I have no idea how it drives, it didn't have a trans or transfer.

The guy who I bought it from was a really close family friend so he told me everything he did.

1. The whole suspension, brakes, steering, and axles are from a 71. Except for the items that he fabed. Atleast that is what he said. I think i should run the numbers on the axle. I do know it's a 12 bolt, but thats it.

2. The engine is a SBC 400 that doesn't need it but should rebuild or just drop a 350 into it.

I want to keep the setup, just redue the spacers and the fabed iron.

Re: Can I get a Pic?

I would keep the SB 400 but thats me. you are going to need to get the parts off a doner truck or go to diy4x4 and order a new set of after market spring perches from them.

Re: Can I get a Pic?

The rear spring hangers are pre 71 or from a 2wd (Maybe they switched hangers in 70?).They arent the 71-72 4wd rear spring hangers..
I would be afraid to own a truck rigged up like that unless it was fixed...Have any pics of the rear axle? It could be a 73+ rear as they had the shocks outside of the frame as opposed to inside the frame on the 67-72s and could explain the spacers in between the frame and hangers because the perches are in different spots on a 73+
Are both rear shocks facing the same way or one towards back and one towards front?

Re: Can I get a Pic?

Well I just went and looked at the axle. Numbers are GM67 and 3893889 N

To answer your question the shocks are opposing (one front one rear facing)

Also question for Dustin. Why would you be afraid to own something riged like this. Not trying to be a pain, just wondering. Is there something I should be afraid of??? Week points, etc....

Maybe I should go talk to the guy I bought the truck from about the rear springs.

Re: Can I get a Pic?

The boxing on the frame looks to me like it might have been a I6 and they cut the cross member out then replaced it with something. I would clean up the frame and make it OEM.

There is only one problem with OEM, it use to be a c10. With all these add ons they made it a k10. I would like to keep the 4x4 just redue it where it looks and works correcly.

Re: Can I get a Pic?

The rear spring mount is just like my 68's. The C-10 must have had a leaf rear end. The rear doesn't look as bad as the front. I would replace the shackles and add OEM spring mounts as stated above. Each of mine has 6 rivets holding it to the frame...

Re: Can I get a Pic?

I would own it but before getting it on the road I would go through and make sure everything was done right, fix what wasnt a hope it holds up! Looks like the piece of steel under the front is to support/brace the front spring hangers? If it was me,I would remove that and put in correct spring hangers, and replace the front shackles.

Does anyone have an idea what year the rear axle is from the newest pics?

Re: Can I get a Pic?

I'd guess 73-when ever they went to 10 bolt rear axle. That year I dont kow. I guess that because of the shocks being mounted one towards front, one towards rear like the 73+

Re: Can I get a Pic?

Id say 73 and up too you can always just cut the spring perches off the axle and move them in to fit and re weld them.
To fix the front a set of this spring hangers would look nice.

Re: Can I get a Pic?

Those hangers do look sweet, gotta put them on my wish to do list... J.

Are looking for frame horns to fix the bent cracked ones, if so I have a set for the price of subscription, and shipping. They are off a '72, don't know if they fit '67, '68 J.

Re: Can I get a Pic?

That's a 12-bolt chevy axle, I would buy a set of mopar spring perches ($12) from summit like mine in post#14, weld them inboard. Then you could get rid of the spacers...

Thats what they were desinged for so you could use 73 up 52in springs on the 67 to 72 trucks. I have been told that you can get abought a 4in lift using them with stock 73 springs but Ive not asked for sure. I think he has a vendor acount over on CK5 to ask him questions about the parts he builds.
