I'm going to smooth out my cowl and was just wondering if you guys had any tips or advice. Got any do's and don'ts.

Go slow and weld in short bursts. Let us know how it works.

just my thaughts. keep the heat down. they warp very very easily. i smoothed a cowl about 2 years ago for a buddys 71. lol well i shaved two. the first one got hot some how. i stiched welded it and really took my time i thaught , grinded all my welds smooth to look at my master piece and lol . it was about an inch higher in the middle. so we opt to try it again ,it turned out really nice. just a lite coat of metal glaze and we were done

Wouldn't bolting it down to something solid during the welding process help?..........Bamm

Needs to be mounted on the cab.Or a junk one.That will help it keep it's shape.I doubt if you can keep it from warping any other way.

What PanelDeland said - if you do not bolt it in, I have heard from several people here over the past couple of years that it will warp and lose its shape.

Hers mine bolt it on and go slow...very slow.... Took me a week of just spot welding it when ever I was around it.

It's NOT a 1 day job ... not unless you like sheetmetal that's curled like the edge of a lasagna noodle.
