Finally layin 22's with pics

Well my smoothies have yet to come in but I threw my freinds old 22's on to see how it looks. All I have to say is damn 22's are big. I know so I will get some up in about an hour. The only problem I have is with the wheels hitting the fenders when I go up. Tomorrow I am going to trim the hood and fenders as much as I can and then shorted the control arms about 3/8". I will then have my freind machine my rotors down abit and machine my wheels down if there is enought metal to. But thats it for now.

Hello,

Looking good on the big wheels! You said you ordered Centerline Smoothies?
Just curious how much you spent on them and where you got them from? With a 4 inch Z does your truck get enough lift to clear the tires? What size tire do you plan on running? Keep up on the progress and pics I love it!

got the wheels directly from centerline for $1244 shipped to my door. I will barly have enough lift for the tires to clear but they will. I will be getting 265/35/22. The same size on the 22's in the pic.

Sweeeeeeeeeet! That looks so bad ass! I trimmed my fenders already, dont worry, there is pleanty of material there and they are still very rigid. I think I took out around 1-2 inches per side, you can see i took the stepped up lip all the way off. I used a adjustable square to trace from the inside of the engine compartment. I can get you a better picture and an exact measurement if you need it.

Dont mean to jack someone elses thread,:tj: no I didn't z the frame. I built/still am building a new crossmember and raised the upper control arm mount points, sort of how Porterbuilts crossmember does, but no where near as pretty.

doesnt matter if your crossmember is not pretty. If you can build it yourself thats awsome. THe porterbuild ones are so expensive. Right now I have trimmed my hood as much as possible. THen I am going to set it on my truck and mark how far I can trim my fenders. I probably wont shorten my control arms now because it looks like I dont need to. I am still going to mill the wheels and rotors though.

You shouldn't have to shorten your control arms, the Z should keep your geometry within the stroke of the stock arms. I hadnt even thought about trimming the hood yet, but what are you going to do for hood hinges? I'm in the same boat you are without inner fenderwells.

Re: Finally layin 22's with pics

well i wanted to shorten my control arms because the wheels sticks out to much with the backspacing i had to get on the wheels. I dont think I have to now. I trimming the **** out of my fenders and the lip on the inside of my hood today. I have about 1/8" of clearance when I go up now. I am still going to mill my rims and rotors so I can steer. I think I am going to pie cut my uppers so I can have a better ball joint angle and bring the tire in alittle on the top. I have no more alinment spacers for the uppers anymore. FOr hood hinges I want to put 4 piked hood pins on or use suicide door hinges in the fire wall for hinges. Really want hinges but I am leaning towards the pins. And I still need to get a new rear end. ok enough talking

I know what you mean about the balljoint angle, I might be making some new arms to take care of this. There is a company that makes thinner retaining washers that go beind the allignment spacers to get more room out of the upper control arm, but I can't remember who it is.

Re: Finally layin 22's with pics

Ok well today I finished the exhaust, just need new collector gaskets. Put in the gas tank and ran a switch for the clutch on my EDC. Tomorrow I will put in the gaskets for the exhaust and bleed the brakes. Hopeful drive it to work on wednesday. Wont have a frame from the axle back but atleast I will have tail lights.

Re: Finally layin 22's with pics

well I have finished everything I wanted to for now. Drove it around today and did some dragging. Probably not. I need to finish making the mount for my edc and get a oil seperator for it. I will get some pics that are clearer soon. I still need to upgrade my master cylinder, I am running stock. I also need to put in stronger crossmember for my steering box. The factory one wasnt cutting it. THe frame was flexing like crazy, even with just manual steering. Took out the old one, now just need to make a new one. Got to get my plasma or chop saw back from my friend first. Probably do it tomorrow or friday. thanks for the responses.
