Drove an HHR Panel - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I stopped by my neighbors last evening.I saw he had gotten a new HHR Panel this week and hadn`t stopped in for a week or two.He`s the guy that was looking for another 50-53 Panel.He`s older and retired and wanted something to start traveling to shows in.His wife has been bugging him to get something new and he finally did.His last new purchase was a`76 ChevyVan.He paid $20k cash and he`s got his traveler,now.Says he has enough left over to buy this California Panel in VA that`s solid and he can fix it up.He`s got other trucks that he`ll prolly sell off,now.It`s pretty cool,he`s got a`67 Panel...40 years difference.
Anyway,I walked up and the first thing he said was he drank his last beer.So,I offered to run to town for him since he already had some.He was going to ride along,then said,"why don`t you drive the Panel?"I think it`s a neat little ride.It`s red and was showing 202mi. when I got in the driver seat.Purdy dang kewl little ride for $20,000 IMO.

interesting that you posted this, as i saw my first one as well today (didnt know they existed) when i pulled into the chevy dealer to check to see if they carried an accelerator cable. it was sitting at the front of a line of HHRs and it was the only panel.

definatly a cool little vehicle!

The one he got was the only one at this dealer.It was brought in from a West Virginia dealer to the one he found it at.I`ll get a picture of it next to his`67.

looks pretty good , but hate that back door line ruins the look . I'd have to weld that puppy shut, and fill it in

...and ditch the bumpers, add roll pans, '59 Caddy tail lights, rework the grill, toss on some old school rims, slam it, prime it and flame it.

Looking at his I wish there wasn`t the bowtie on the piece over the tag or no piece over the tag.I was thinking a vintage "Chevrolet" script in the lower center would look good.Like the`55 front fender script or trunk shield.They are very customizable,IMHO.I wouldn`t want the factory to do everything for me.

these are really cool little rides, my step father just baught my mom one about 2 weeks ago. and she seems very happy with it i have yet to drive it (LOL) long story very long story. although i have rode in it. my step father is already looking to do things to it ,lower it , and is wanting change the wheels. lol he is trying to figure out how to supercharge it,lol it has about 1200 miles on it !! and my mother is 59,, she keeps B@tching at him to leave it alone or go buy him one and destroy it.lol i wish the wife liked them , i think there cool as he11

Toss the bumper, do a roll pan, smooth the lift gate, sink the license plate in to the pan, do some type of old school tail lights ('59 Caddy,'50 Pontiac...) and that thing would really be looking sharp.

I got to check out longhair's rig... it is a red HHR panel also... VERY impressive lookin ride.
And this coming from a guy who thinks the normal HHRs are fugly.

My wife has one......silver but its not the panel and she loves it, that thing gets right at 30 mpg and that is wonderful in these gas prices times and has the old school look at that......

I never liked the HHR's, they always seemed like a PT Cruiser knock off with alot less style, but this panel looks pretty nice, I'd be proud to drive one!

Here is Longhairs panel. His was the first one that I have seen. I like his alot. Nice to see Chevy going back to its roots a little bit. I wish I had a better picture. Some of the guys from Norwood Meet.

wow, those are pretty cool! I wish i'd taken a look at Longhair's. That would make a cool shop truck. roll pan and shaved, promered, with logos on the side. someone should 'chop one up.

Bought the lady one a year ago, its not a panel but its been a good car for the family, thought they looked cool, good on gas, and better than a 2 door with a baby. I drove it to Idaho 900 miles almost without stopping, knocking down 30 - 32 miles per gallon. Pretty peppy for a four banger we got an LT with the 2.4 178hp. Anyways there good little cars that keep a classic look, by the way I think they look better than a PT which looks more from the future, + tons more room inside than the PT

It was fun traveling with Longhair to the Norwood Meet and I had no problem looking at his HHR panel in the rear veiw or or following it looks good from all sides if you ask me. I like it alot more than the non-panel.

I also think it fit right in with the look of our years trucks

Kinda cool for a throw back ride.

the nromal ones a fugly...buyt i could own the panel...i could proably live with the right side rear door, but the left would get welded shut...the slam it, paint it black, with old school flames,,,put some kinda shop logo where the windows used to be.....old scholl steelies, with baby moons and bueaty rings...hell yeah...
