Would you buy that this guy just needs the money?
He's selling a 350 complete cept for the intake and carb. It's supposed to be a GM crate motor less that 5 years old, 50k miles on it for $500 including an engine stand and hoist. I asked why he was selling it, he says because he doesn't have the blazer that he was going to put it in anymore and he just needs the money. Hmmmmm....he either needs the money, there's something really wrong with it....or he's

Re: Would you buy that this guy just needs the money?
Personally, I probably wouldn't buy a used engine unless I knew the history (ie, came from a trusted friend) or it was so cheap that the sum of the parts was worth far, far more than the asking price. There's just no way to tell what it really is. You can get long blocks plus tin for around $1400 and have a warranty.

Re: Would you buy that this guy just needs the money?
Oh I hear ya, but since I was looking at getting a stand and hoist some day anyways, which would cost between $150-$200, that's basically a 350 with everything but the intake a carb for $300 +/-.

Pull the pan, a rod cap and a main cap and check it out. There are ways to tell if it's good or not. If he's not willing to let you do those things, then it's not worth buying.

Re: Would you buy that this guy just needs the money?
look through the classifieds in your local papers and wheels and deals. there is a guy here in nashville that advertises new engines, he is retired and rebuilds them for the hell of it. you can get a 350 for 695 plus a core with a warranty.
