dumb question about d44 and corp.10

this may be a dumb question but what is the differance in the dana 44 8.5 ring and pinion and the corprate 10 8.5 ring and pinion. I havent really messed with the dana 44's much before and was wondering whats the differance in the gears.

Re: dumb question about d44 and corp.10

I have a thread on the differences in the axles, the ring and pinion seem to be different as well. I know that mine had a different spline count 30 vs 28.

Re: dumb question about d44 and corp.10

looks like the ring gear bolts are different as well...

As far as dependability goes, they are equal axles. Both have disadvantages if you are into hard-core 4 wheeling. For the average user then you can go with either.... The spline count on the inner axle is different and the wheel hub bearings are different (larger spindles on 10b) but those issues don't matter much.

I actually have a 10bolt with dana44 spindles and hubs on my 68.

Re: dumb question about d44 and corp.10

the 1/2t-3/4t 10b spindles are the same as all d44 3/4t and 76/77 1/2t.

dont even start about the axle splines. they both neck down to 1.1" reguardless of the 28/30 or d44 30.

I disagree on the spindle part...

I have an 82 corp 10 bolt 1/2ton and agree that the spindles might be the same as a Dana44 3/4 ton.... but I also have a 76 1/2ton dana44 and it's spindles are smaller....
