Angry Valve Sticking Open

So after driving my truck for the last two weeks, i noticed the other day that my right rear bag was filling to the PSI of the tank. after some thought, i realized that the fill valve was sticking open. I can get it to close if i hit the open switch a couple times, but it's a problem i'd like to fix.

Does anyone have any solutions that don't involve taking the valve out and replacing it?

I'm not running a water trap, and I do not have exhaust reducers or muffers on my dump valves. I plan to get something on the dump valves to prevent crud from getting into them soon.

Re: Valve Sticking Open

I would take the valve apart and make sure there is no sand in it. I have had valves do that in the pass.

Re: Valve Sticking Open

i highly doubt water is causing this problem ... these valves are designed for pneumatic systems and by the nature of compressed air they are going to have moisture in them.

Sounds like you have something lodged in the spool ... if you used Teflon tape on your fittings, then I would be almost willing to be that it's a piece of that.

Good luck and let us know what ya find out.

P.S. These valves are not complicated at all to disassemble ... pull her out and tear her apart ... the curiosity is KILLING me!

Re: Valve Sticking Open

Mine did the same thing. When my truck was parked, the right rear bag would slowly fill to equalize the tank pressure.

Take it apart and make sure it's clean. Might need to replace the valve.

Re: Valve Sticking Open

the valves are completely rebuildable, so as long as the case or the solinoid isnt broke then its fine. Clean it out really well, if that does work then buy the $3 rebuild kit and rebuilt it with a new diaphram and such.

Re: Valve Sticking Open

Yeah, i think taking it apart is my only option. hopefully i can take the valve apart and clean it w/o removing it from the assembly i put together for each bag. I got lucky and had no leaks the first time, and don't want to create one now.

Here's a pic of the assembly i'm talkin about.

Re: Valve Sticking Open

not to hijack.. but what gauge wire is recommended to run to the valves, my eai switch box has some tiny wires running into a connecting block (cat 5 size) and im curious if i can run similarly small wires.. thanks, hope you figure out whats up w/the valve

Re: Valve Sticking Open

to the valves i'm pretty sure 16 gauge is suggested. the compressor needs larger wire though. 10 is what i used.
