Post Wife broke my truck!!!!

Wife calls at work-"truck won't start", ah he**, "Ok whats it doing?","Won't start, It's making a funny noise", Uh-oh..."Let me hear you try it",goes out to truck, "ok, here goes....eeeeerrrrrrchchchchchssseng(you know the sound the starter makes when the teeth aren't fully engaged, *shudder*)...", " Ok, sorry, you are stuck at home- I will look at it when I get home from work" etc. click.
So I get home, bump the starter a few times, it makes the noise but it fires right up. Hmmm, I hope I don't have to replace the flywheel. I hear a "ting ting tingle ting" from under truck. Shut off truck. Crawl under the truck to pull the plastic (why plastic???!!) cover and when I look at the starter- the cone is broken clean off!!! So I pulled the starter and will put on one from Napa tomorrow.

I hate those calls...mine always come at night when it is raining and I am in the middle of something important..."Honey there is something wrong with the truck!" At least I am glad that I am not the only one getting those calls....LOL!

Ive gotten a few from my wife.Micah the Truck wont start, well one time i was in the middle of taking the Blazer top off by myself, with board.and careful manuevering.Luckily she only works 50 miles away, never drove this thing on the freeway, empty on gas.had to throw some tools in the toolbox, brought a extra battery, starter, and alt and threw in the floorjack.Well after getting there i realized it was a loose battery/poor conection thank god, another time i had a few beers,Micah the Suburban wont start-same thing grabbed all the necessaries, ended up changing starter in the parking lot at her job, this is a professional buisness that most people drive beamers, and crap, and wear suits here i am all greasy, working under a truck-god people acted like i was doing a tranny job.and id do one of them in parking lot to before id pay a truck to haul it after hours from Mesa to Casa Grande,Now with her 99 Nissan i can say your on your own Honey,it has a extended warranty and tow,and rental car insurance, but i can pick you up if you need.I wont even lift the hood, she takes it in for a oil change,i wont touch it.Looked at where the oil filter was on sideways, and id never get my arm up there by lying in the driveway,i said take it to the monkey wrench place, theyll even vacuum it,and top off the other stuff, but dont let them talk you into any rearend fluid, coolant changes, wiper blades or anything.OIL only!!!I hate driving it,even when its 122 outside ill jump in my non working AC GMC and drivesomewhere, before i drive that with Ice Cold AC.Makes me feel crammed in.And i hate manual trannys,im lazy.

Yeah just under $100 from Napa. I paid $80 with a core along! Then the jerk has the nerve to criticize(?) my Blazer. "Must be nice since your putting a new starter in it." I though what does that mean? He just sat there smiling and acting like he knew what my truck is capable of.

I am the wife and on the flip side, how do you think it feels to make that call...unfortunatly its happened to me many times...and 90% of the time as soon as he gets ther the dern thing will turn right over and run perfect. So as it does suck to get that call its even worse to have to make.
Nosurf i'm glad its nothing major, but have you ever noticed trucks are loyal to their man. Its like they know....

while i was at work my X took my truck four wheeling. she sucked the radiator and carb full of water and muc then a guy/ her b/f. advanced the timing so she could drive it home. Spun the bearing after she ran it hot. Thats why she's an X now.

My wife has yet to drive my truck, I've asked a few times if she wanted to drive but she won't, she doesn't want to risk it, she's been here for the whole restoration and she knows what I've put into it.
She does belive that the truck has a bit of a "Christine" feel, sometimes when she gets in or gets out she'll bump her arm or head or the seat belt will pinch her or something like that, she always says Christine bit me again!

HEY! When (and if) she would call about the truck I WOULDN'T MIND! I can fix whatever's going on with the truck! It's that damn New Jetta I'm worried about...

...she usually calls me telling me:

1. She ran into something.
2. She ripped something off (a mirror).
3. Someone ran into her.
4. She had a mishap with the parking lot (her by herself, and she ran over something, or snagged the front spoiler on something).

Each one of the above points costs at least $200.00 to fix. FYI.

Air Conditoning? Whats that? mine is just roll down the windows and drive 70. works pretty good. I love working on my truck cause I can do EVERYTHING to it. these new cars and trucks you can't do anything to. I think that they try to make it hard so that you have to take it back to the dealer. I wish that the guys who design this stuff had to work on it!!!!

i dont knwo about alot of you, but i kinda had it with these wise guys at parts store, if there so good why dont they go work in a real shop, i think parts stores are for retire mechanics who know there stuff, half the time i'm at the local part store i'm cursing at the guy over the counter cause he think he knows it all, prove him wrong, go in back of the store my self, get my part, call him a dumba$$ and pay for my item. this only happen when i go to the local kragen. now to me its worth driving 25 miles to get the right part and cost price. at a different part store with alot of cooler shet around to play with.

well back to the topic. i dont have awive or girl friend. but i do get alot of call (i should start my own towing company) poeple stuck in the mud, dont ask, car wont start, they hit somthing, they need help, flat tire, and too drunk to drive. there more but yeah.

word of advice if you get the starter from NAPA get the supreme series or 9 times out of 10 you will be replacing the cheap one again in under a year. I put two of the cheap ones on, NEVER again. one of them died in under month. got the supreme series and its been on for over three years

Chevy 70-Thanks for the heads up on that.

I wasn't mad at all when she called. I want her to be able to take my truck down to the beach whenever she wants, so I fealt kinda bad that it wouldn't start. But I was very relieved that it was just the starter.

My wife won't drive either of my trucks. Says can't handle a manual trans in the hills. OK by me.

Local NAPA guys call my trucks (66 & 68) "Dinasours" when I go in for parts. Gee, wonder what they call me after I leave?

Cool

My wife has never driven either of my babies. She has commented once or twice about wanting to, and I would let her, but she has never actually gone through with it.

I think she sees how much time and effort I put into them keeping them flawless inside and out and thinks that if something happend while she was driving one of them she'd be in big trouble. I make it up to her by giving her Grand Cherokee the same TLC.

She did ask if she and a friend could take the T/A to the mall to go shopping. Of course I replied with the one brow down one brow up face, "I don't EVER take that car to the mall, it would be safer at a smash up derby."

Yah, I used to sell NAPA parts and their starters are junk. we always went with a local rebuild company and never had a problem with them. About a year ago we got away from NAPA and are now an independent buying from the JOCKOS wearhouse. much better.

My wife has that sort of tallent. Here are a few of her escapades and in her defence not all her fualt.
Been though a couple of Turbo's on one of her cars (I no longer put her in turbo cars) For some reason My begging and pleeding to please let the car warm up before driving has no meaning. Hearing the Turbo spool going up the street on a 15deg F day when the car has not been running more that 15 seconds really greats on my nerves. Her K5 run sythetic now because I still have not got that sunk in her head.
One day she goes to run the kid to day care. Parks the car in the fire lane (URRRGGG) runs the kid in. DEAD I mean DEAD. not her fault plate dropped in the battery.
After I took the Turbo car away from her and started using it as a daily driver because I have no problem going out and starting it and letting it warm. She needs to run to the store. Well the previous owner had put one of those prestone flush kits on. She's hops in the car to run to the store since it was the last in the driveway. Comes back about 20 minutes later and says the car is running funny and making a funny noise. Was running fine when I came home from work 30 minutes ago. Walk out to see a trail of antifreez running 40 feet down the driveway out into the street from where I parked and it was not parked in the same place. Trip over the broken cap from the flush kit. A river of Anti freeze is not that noticable I guess.
I'm out of town. I get this call that the Power windows in the K5 are not working.. They are down of course. And it's spring (read as plenty of rain here in GA). Two day's later I get home. Still haven't figured out how she managed this. To gett the full effect you must understand my wife is 5ft tall. Riding with her is sort of scary because the seat really doesn't go far enough forward for her in her 79 K5 Blazer. She is pretty well tip toe on the brake peddle. Well some how she managed to kick the power feed for the pwr windows out of the fuse box.
Busted the Headlight switch in my Supra one night out with the girls at 2am.
She has about done in the battery on the Supra. In fact I plan on getting it replaced today because again the car wouldn't start. She just can't seem to get the door all the way closed and runs it dead with the dome lights.
Before we met she rear ended somebody in the Colt she had. She knew the car went thoguh about a quart of oil every 300 miles. Well the acciden jammed the hood. She drove it till it ran out of oil and locked the engine on I75 right downtown Atlanta.
The car that replaced that one was a 82 200sx. SHe gets off work goes into her appartment. about an hour later the neighbor knocks on the door. Hay don't worry we all ready called the fire department. She looks over their should at the smoke pouring out of the car. Had an electrical fire...again not her fault. Plastice in the head light switch broke and shorted out.
I Hop in the 79 after not driving it for about 3 weeks. It's running like crap. stalling. I ask how long it's been like that? Ohh a couple of weeks. Cheap gas that was contaminataed. Glad you saved 5 cents a gallon honey. It just about paid for the plugs it ruined and the rebuild kit for the carb. To bad it didn't cover the 4 hours I spent fixing the damn thing. RUN ONLY SUPER FROM NOW ON FROM THE BIG STATIONS.
I make it a point to drive it every few days now.
Pretty well the same story about running one out of brake pads and me hearing it sitting in the living room when she came home. Gee I would rather buy new rotors then have the ones with only 15k on them turned for $5 each.
I could go on
Yeah my wife is a little hard on the cars LOL.

$41 seems a bit high for a starter. They usually run around $30 at the parts stores around me for a rebuilt....
I have a cheapo Ultima in mine, and when it dies i am getting a AC Delco rebuilt starter from the Chevy Dealer, even if it costs $70.

Oh, i am the only one who drives my truck. My mom had to drive it once, to get a tire that was going flat fixed while i was at work, but besides that no women drive my truck .
