conversio
ok so i just got ahold of a straight 67 lwb that im converting to a shortbed. its a 2wd. but my daily driver right now is a 69swb and its also a 2wd. im thinkin of takin the 69 and hangin a straigt axle under it and throwing up in the air. is this a bad idea. cause it doesnt sound like much of a project

Re: conversio
It will be more of a project than you think but can be done. The rear if it has coils will need converted to leafs and even if it has rear leafs the spring hangers are different and it wont set level-back lower. The front, grab a front axle, spring hangers, springs, shackles and mounts.Position everything straight.Dont want a crooked axle.Bolt everything up and drill holes where needed.Switch steering boxes or run crossover steering on the current set up.There is more to it than that but thats the basics.

Re: conversio
Thanks 1969K for the info. Anyone else got some info on this. I have a 69 I would like to do the same thing to. Lets see some pics of the front and rear suspension of converted trucks. Will the shackls bolt up. Does the 2wd frame have the holes that are needed for the conversion?

Re: conversio
A couple years back my friend started this conversion on his 63 chevy. It is mostly done. The suspsenion is where he wants it, but it is not completely bolted in...now he has something like 25 holes to drill and make it permanent. We are going to use an NV-3500 with a divorced mount NP-205. After a lot of shopping for parts and trying to figure out what he wanted to do, the plan was to use the stock SM-420 (after buying two SM-465/Rockwell T221 set ups) so he bought a divorced NP-205, but later on I came across the NV-3500 (2wd) for a nice price.
If I remember right any 4wd chevy front axle will work, my friend found one from a 91 Blazer. Another part you will need is a crossmember for under the engine. On a 2wd the front suspension and crossmember will be completely unbolted. Finding some of the parts was challenging. There is a cast iron block that the rear shackle of the front springs bolts to and the front spring hangars were the worst of all the parts to find...and get. We talked about boxing the frame for the shackle mount, but ended up using the cast iron blocks. On the front he used 4" lift springs and to get the rear even (IIRC) 6" lift springs with 4" blocks were used to get the look he wanted. To finish it, we have to bolt in the front crossmember under the engine, install the tranny, install the t-case, make drivshafts, redo the brakes, and redo the steering. Eventually, we will get it finished and I will try to get some pics soon.
