AFAIK The internals are the same between them.
The spring perches are narower on The Dodge axle. Does it have the full time hubs on it, big nut with a cotter pin? Or does it have regular lockouts on it.

That axle is one of Dodges creation.
Chevy parts will not interchange with it. Everyone I know steers clear of those axles. A GM front axle would be a better bet. And if you are just going to use 1/2 ton axles they are pretty cheap. I couldn't even give away my 1/2 ton stuff. They wound up in a salvge yard. I paid $250 for my D44 8 lug and 14 bolt FF with 4:10 gears.

You can swap the kuckles out with chevy dana 44 parts, use the dodge inner axle shaft, with the chevy outer stub axle. I converted my dodge 3/4 to chevy 3/4 this way to get rid of the weak dodge bearing set up. If you are going to put it in a jeep, do the same thing except use a ford dana 44 parts and then you can keep the jeep wheel lug nut pattern.

Burlinator, wanna make a trip to Oregon? I have a closed knuckle Dana 44 I can't give away. Nothing wrong with it, works great and has 4.10 gears. I guess being closed knuckle makes it worth about as much as the used gear oil that's in it

I'd take that, but I have no idea how to get it from Oregon to Missouri.

when i was 16 i let a pair of matched 70-something ram charger 1/2 ton axles go to scrap guy, were probably dana 44 and whatever rear axle dodge 4x4 use(anyone know)?
i probably would have kept them if i had them nowadays, at least used them for parts or something., i had no clue at all back then, good luck |
