Possible to swap a 4l60e in my truck.
Ive got a question that I hope someone can answer. I just picked up a really good 4l60e trans. out of a 98 silverado, what all am I looking at to make the swap? I currently have a T350 trans, Im really just wanting something with an overdrive. The truck is a 65 LWB.

Re: Possible to swap a 4l60e in my truck.
You're going to have to buy an aftermarket computer to operate the trans. Otherwise it won't work at all. Something else to consider is that that trans has an electronic speedo drive. The stand alone controlers for the 4L60's can be a little expensive.....IIRC about $1000. A less expensive way to go would be with a 700R4. They are not computer controlled....all you have to do is make sure the TV cable is hooked up and properly adjusted.
I wish I could find a 2wd 4L60 around here.....all the ones I find are 4wd ![]()

I might look around for the 700r4 then, what vehicles did they come in originally?

Re: Possible to swap a 4l60e in my truck.
The 700R4's came in a lot of different GM vehicles prior to 1996 when they changed it to electronically controlled and renamed it 4L60E. In fact the '95 4L60 was not electronic IIRC. I don't remember exactly what year the 700R4 came out....sometime in the early 80's. The '88 and newer are the better ones to get a hold of, since that was when GM made some internal upgrades. As I mentioned earlier, if you do get a 700R4 just make sure you gey the TV cable hooked up and adjusted correctly. If not you could easily ruin the trans.
