Angry Backed the '07 into a pole! Arghh!

Well the truck is less than 5 months old and while camping this weekend I backed into a pole protecting the RV electrical hookup.
Here's some pics,
The visible damage is to the driverside of the bumper and driverside bedside.

You can see the bedside was driven under the tailgate and the gate won't open.

To top it off, I now have a new crease and dent on the bedside.

Will my local GM parts shop have the bumper (and will it cost $800), and will the body shop have to replace the bedside?

Thanx in advance
Dano

Remove the bumper first before you do any damage to the tailgate. Do not open the tailgate. Get a block of wood and beat out the bedside from the edge going out. A good bodyshop should be able to pull on the left bedside and stress relieve the panel without having to replace it. I would just repair the bedside if I were you.

Re: Backed the '07 into a pole! Arghh!

Most dealers should have a bumper in stock. I am not sure of the price. The bedside looks to be repairable. Shop around, we take estimates from several body shops on each accident, and some of them are different by $500 on a job like that. Even replace the bumper yourself to save a few. And to repeat what was said above.... DO NOT OPEN THE TAILGATE!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Backed the '07 into a pole! Arghh!

Replace rear face bar approx 600.00 dollars
Labor for rear bumper 1.2 hrs
Set up and measure 1.5 hrs
Body pull 2.0 hrs
Repair lt bedside after pull 10.0 hrs
Remove and Reinstall lt tail lamp .3 hours
Remove and Reinstall tailgate .3 hours
Refinish and clearcoat approx 5.0 hours
Paint and materials 130.00 dollars
car cover (to prevent overspray) 10.00 dollars
Hazardous waste disposal 3.00 dollars
Disconnect battery .3 hours
I will guess approximately 1800.00-2200.00 dollars to repair

Re: Backed the '07 into a pole! Arghh!

Don't feel too bad bro. I backed my 03 Silverado extended cab Z71 with only 15 K on it into my 86 Scottsdale K10 with a 4 inch lift on July 5. I was in a hurry to get to work that night (3rd shift) and forgot that my 86 was parked that close to the end of the driveway. Doh!

My 86 has the front bumper off right now and it caught my 03 about 3 inches from the rear bumper on the passenger side bedside and caved it in all the way to the wheelwell. It pushed my bedside in a good 2-3 inches at the deepest point. The 86? Not so much as a scratch.

Made me sick. This truck has been garaged and babied since I brought it home 4 years ago. Just dropped it off at the body shop this morning at the Chevrolet dealer that I bought it from. The manager says they'll make it look just like it did the day that I bought it....for a price of course! It has $1,043 in damage. My deductible is $1,000. I didn't even bother turning it in to my insurance company. It sucks and I totally understand your situation.

My truck is black which makes it look even worse but I'm sure that it will look good as new by the end of the week. I can't post any pics of mine right now because my computer crashed and I have to use my wife's laptop right now Maybe I will be able to post some pictures of mine up later.

I did feel a little better when the body shop manager pointed me to a truck like yours that is owned by one of the salesmen. It has 6 K on it and was laid on the driver side when he cut somebody off and swerved to avoid a wreck. $17,000 in damage. Now I don't feel so bad! ...Joe

Re: Backed the '07 into a pole! Arghh!

Chevrolet changed the design on the rear bumper of the new trucks. The chrome part is a cap, and there is a framework behind the caps and pads. Parts have been a real PITA to get.

Re: Backed the '07 into a pole! Arghh!

I work at a body shop and just did a new truck with a similiar wreck and you will definitely need to replace the main bar. The one I did was not that pushed in and the bar was bent. Also the crome cap is pop rivited on which I found strange.Last sorry that happened to you and hope it looks as good as new when you get it back.
