1968 GMC C2500 4 spd V8

Hey guys, not sure if anyone remembers my buddy Chris on here under the name "87_3/4_ton_chevy" or similar to that. Anyway, he was originally going to get an 87 Chevy K20 truck fro free but it fell through as the guy he was getting it from didnt have it paid off yet and had no title to it.

Anyway, he was helping me and a couple buddies work on a truck today and we saw an old 68 C2500 long bed reg cab truck sitting in the owners back yard. We ask him about it and it has a newer 350 V8 in it and the body is in fair to decent condition, very little rust on body and very little rust in cab floor. We talk with the owner and he said he would let it go for 750.00. To me that sounded like a good deal. I talked it over with my buddy and we are going to see if we cant pick it up and at least drive it some this week or this coming weekend. I will also take my digital camera with me for pics. Interior on the truck is in very good shape and underbody what i could see seemed to be in decent condition. I will update as i get more info.

Im just glad i could help my buddy out in finding another truck im willing to work on with him.

Sounds like my kinda deal. Even so,I'd talk him down if possible.
Waiting on the pics here, sounds like a good truck.

i asked him what his absolute rock bottom was and he said 750, he said if it was any lower hed just leave it set. I personally think for having a newer engine and good body/interior 750 is a darn good price IMO

Re: 1968 GMC C2500 4 spd V8

ill try and get pics either tonight or tomorrow, i took some with my cell phone but i have no clue how to get them to the internet or computer. Body like i said is straight and true, very little minor rust on body, some small rust on corners of interior floor but all in all solid and has a newer 350 V8 under the hood mated to a factory 4 spd manual.

Re: 1968 GMC C2500 4 spd V8

Well, the transmission can be pretty expensive. Check to see if it pops out of gear or makes any funny noises. Shouldn't really make any noise except in low.Check the drive line accelerating and decelerating. Hidden rust is probably a big concern. Engine of course needs to be checked to see if all 8 are firing and no bearing noises/excess smoke etc.All the usual stuff. Lastly, sometimes the registration can be a problem. Check to see how much it will cost to get it registered.

Looks like an orginal V-6 "M" code. That engine is a transplant.
I like it,and for THAT price? Nice score.
What does it show on the sticker inside the glove box? - Brian

Ya I know, the tiltle says... red, white and blue for the color. My plans are to paint the outside like a dark blue and the interior black. Or like a redish orangish, not sure yet.

Re: 1968 GMC C2500 4 spd V8

well everyone, Chris brought home his truck tonight and paid 750 for it. We put new plugs, wires, fuel filter and a can of seafoam in the tank before we drove it home. We purchased a cap/rotor as well but when i pulled the cap off to replace it the inside looked like new and the rotor the same. Anyway, ran like crap till we got to the gas station, put 8 gal of new fuel in plus the can of seafoam. Drove it home 10 miles and was running 500% better, no more sputtering, coughing or hicupping from the truck. I even spun the tires off when i left from a stop light hehe. Anyway, we noticed that none of the gauges work except POSSIBLY the voltmeter. Where would be a good source to start with gauge wiring, also no lights in rear of truck, has headlights though. Help is appreciated.

The tail lights are seperate from the headlights in the fuse block. Also, the harness plugs in at the rear crossmember and could be unplugged or corroded. The gauges sound like a fuse. The oil pessure is a tube plumbed from back of gauge to top/rear of block near the distributor. The newer motor may not have a tapped hole there.

Re: 1968 GMC C2500 4 spd V8

update on wiring..............its a MESS

i crawled under the truck tonight and theres open wires simply twisted together, played with thosse a bit and got RH tail and turn to work, no RH brake and LH is inop. at this point, bulb is good. Checked fuse for brake/tail and it is good as well.

Only working gauge is oil press. speedo, volts, fuel gauge and water temp do not work. If nothing else i need fuel gauge and speedo to work. Rest will more than likely get replaced by aftermarket gauges. May plan on doing full autometer gauge cluster in future.

I will try and get some pics of the wiring so you guys know what nightmare i just brought myself into. Plan on working on it all day after work Wed.
