I'm in the process of restoring a 70 GMC Custom longbed and have nearly verything I need to finish the job. (It's gonna look great, I can't wait!) However, my truck has a pair of chrome emblems on the doors above the door handles that say "Custom" in script form. I've found replacements for the 67-68 versions (which are different) but not for the 69-70. Does anyone know where I can find these? (I've already looked at Manes, LMC, and a couple others that I can't remember now.) Mine are OK but are pitted and dull and won't look so great with all new trim otherwise. Thanks for your help!

I figured those would be everywhere, but apparently not.
If they aren't available repro - then you can just have yours blasted/cleaned/re-chromed. Those pieces should be pretty cheap. Plenty of places could do it for you.

As far as resto tips (thread title) - don't skimp on ANYTHING!

Yep, that's what I was assuming as well Orange, but alas, it isn't so. I haven't checked out the rechroming possibility yet, but I'm gonna be in Syracuse tomorrow and the closest rechroming shop is located there so I might just stop by and check out that possibility. I'm really quite surprised that these aren't available since I've noticed that you can basically build a truck from scratch with all the repop parts that are out there. I suppose I could have eliminated them all together and filled in the holes in the doors but the doors are already painted so I don't really wanna go that route. As for "skimping", I totally agree and have pretty much taken the "non-skimp" approach so far. My wallet will vouch for that as well!
