well, got my first accident over with

and my end recieved 10-15 dollars in worthwhile damage repair.

pics when i can get them. It took out mt left rear light cover, bent my bumper about 6" out from the truck, and dented the bed corner.

other car had the whole left front fender shoved in and part of the door shoved out. Driver said they didnt see the extra 4 feet of truck behind my fender (we were facing opposite directions at a highway crossover)

I already fixed the bumper by backing up slowly into a power pole on our property. Now it's about 3/4" off from where it should be and about 1" down.

Light assembly should be about 10 or 15 bucks from a junkyard?

thats prolly alot more that $15 in damage if you make them pay you out of pocket. id take money for a new bumper and light ( they are $39.99 aftermarket new ) and the dent in the bed should be a couple of hundred.. it may not have been an intentional act but still you should have full restitution for your damages

$10-$15 dollars ? You mean you don't want the bumper and bed fixed ?!

I would do it this way. If they have agreed to pay out of pocket and don't want their insurance rates to go up, do this. Price a new tail light, a comparable bumper, and go to a reputable body shop of your choice and get an estimate for fixing that dent.

Also, while these trucks are tough, they aren't tanks either. Check your bumper brackets and make sure they are ok and will be reusable on a new bumper. If not, then add that to the price.

Also, check your frame and make sure it is still square. Have the body shop take the measurements and ensure that is is still 100% true. While it's unlikely that it is bent, it never hurts to check.

Fair is fair, and that deal is plenty fair. If you settle for less you aren't being fair to yourself. I may come across like i'm telling you to milk this for all it's worth, but all I'm saying is cover all your bases so once this is all finished you won't be saying: "DOH!!! (insert damage here) is also messed up but it's too late to get money for that!"

Re: well, got my first accident over with

it's a beater truck no sense in fixing it. I already bent the bumper mostly back in place and the dent can be popped out via pry-bar through an opening that's right there. It wasn't a hard hit, it was at less than a 30 degree angle to the bed. The bumper bent AT the mounts- they were solid enough that it bent at them. she however has what i estimate to be about 2000 in damage- whole new front bumper, headlight, left front fender, and dent removed from drivers door (or door replaced), then paint it all. she took fault and is gonna go through insurance, I already have a bid on a 8 dollar lens on ebay.

I see where you're coming from. Mine is my daily driver and only vehicle which is cause for my mindset.

Nice bumper repair.

Re: well, got my first accident over with

magnethead i actually think what u did was cool,,i have been there a couple times,,coulda have went thru all the ins headache,,but why bother,,if the other person is cool, and it's a daily driver, why make the ins companies get more money by saying this broke, that broke etc.. i also agree with pyrotech in what he is saying, but these ins companies already rip everyone off and if thats the way u feel about your truck, and it's all good for you why make someone else pay ins thats 10 times more than what it's worth.the day will come hopefully the favor will be returned to u...

Re: well, got my first accident over with

If i ever need to fix it i can just pop the bedside off to pop the dent out. It's a daily driver but i'll be getting a vehicle for college soon so no real need to fix it.
