Offroad Maintenance

What sort of maintenance do yall do on your trucks after you pass through deep (over the axle) water/mud? I'm trying to figure out what I should do to keep the axles happy and undamaged. I tried to find some other threads on the subject, but I must not have been using the right phrases.

Re: Offroad Maintenance

Raise up you axle vent hoze to keep water from getting in that way.
After mud and water crossings, i take the front hubs apart and clean them. I find that its darn near impossable to keep everything out. Before i go wheeling i also put duct tape on the end and around the outside of my hubs. They are known to leaking. (1/2 ton hubs). And i grease all my fittings afterwards to force out any water.

Re: Offroad Maintenance

Here is one mod i am doing to my 4x4 it will save a lot of time on off road maintenance.
Water proofing a dana 44
If you extend the breather tubes on the axles taller than your engine air intake and have good seals then it wont let in much water.
Also get all greaseable ujoints helps too.

Re: Offroad Maintenance

Thanks for the replies. The water proofing link is interesting, and once I have a little time, I might give it a shot.
