front cross member swap - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

My brother just called me with a problem. He is in middle of the swap on a 67 c10. He sat the motor in today and the headers are hitting the lower a-frame bushings. Anyone else had this problem and what was the cure? I think it may mean a new set of headers.

More info needed.... What motor, what motor mount towers, what did the truck originally have for a motor, what year is the crossmember he's putting in? Also, how close is the distributor to the firewall and what holes did he use for the mount towers? It sounds like the motor needs to go back a little... If all he did was swap the front crossmember and he put everything back in the same place I wouldn't think there would be any problems.

it is supposed to be the original 283 using the v8 towers in the forward position with lots of room between the dist and firewall. i think the new member was from a late 70's 1/2 ton.

I'm stumped on that one then. It should be a direct bolt in with the same dimensions. Maybe someone else will chime in on this....

I'm the son of the brother. We ended up heating up the left header and bending it up some.. Just fine now. Just waiting on monday to take it to the alignment shop. thanks jackie

you guys are lucky my po had used the front motor mounts and to put my headers on i had to move it back to the rear mounts, and had to make a driveshaft. if i had known how much my "supercool" exaust was going to cost me, i would have got a/c instead.
