Just noticed today a ticking sound when the gear is engaged and the truck is moving. Out of gear there is no noise at all kind of hard to check this while moving down the road by myself. Engine is a 292 and not sure on trans other than 4 speed man any sugestions as to where to start looking is appreciated. Also I know in my British cars Slick 50 and other similar products were bad does the same hold true for these trucks.

I guess the first thing I would do is to check the transmission fluid. I'm not familiar with the truck 4 speeds but there should be a plug about halfway up on the side of the trans case. The gear lube should be up even with the bottom of the hole. Hopefully someone with a little 4 speed experience will chime in here....

Just happened to think that it might be a universal joint on the drive shaft too. They make a clicking noise when they are loose.

No she gets quiet again thats one of the pieces thats has me puzzled. I appreciate all help so far this just is frustrating.

Since you mention it does it under load, I would suspect a bearing also.

It could be coming from a bearing in the transmission, driveshaft u joints or rear wheel bearings.

I'd start with the easiest like inspecting the u joints and then the wheel bearings.

I was thinking Throw out bearing but if it does it under load but not in neutral then it's probably going to be one of the ones above.

Also check the carrier bearing. I had one that would squeek uynder load.
