Would it be an easy swap?

Hey I have an opportunity to purchase a 92 chevy van. It has the 5.7 and 700 trans. Should I buy it? It was for a guy and he kept his wrecked van to put the drive train in his 80 chevy C-10, but his plans have changed. My 70 C-10 has the orginal 250 and 3 on tree 3 speed. I'm mostly excited about the trans and the access to overdrive, but while the truck is down may as well swap the 350 also. SO to get to the end would this be a money pit of a swap? My 250 has only 300 miles since it was rebuilt and I know I'm solid if I pass up the van.

it is definately a great upgrade option and if the price is right go for it
and its possible that it night not be as much of a money pit as u think if everything works right on the engine and tranny so a switch to the collum and a few other things and it should be pretty easy
in the thought of not switching the collum i know a few guys who have hooked up the auto tranny to a 3tree collum not shure how they did it but it would make the whole swap cheaper most likely and cheaper is always good if it works the same

It would be a "relatively easy" swap , all the parts would be commonly available - some other guys might chime in on crossmember location and re-locating the engine mounts if needed---- the stock I-6 radiator might not be adequate for a v8 though.

But - in defense of the 6 -- (and this is my opinion only- some might disagree) these engines are red hot when they are detailed and fitted with some Clifford headers, Offy intake, small 4 bbl (or twin 2 bbl's---- or - this would be cool - swap the 350's TBI system onto the 6 with a standalone wiring harness from SLP) and a little bit of chrome or brushed aluminum.

You might have a little bit more power with a stock v-8, but they are boring belly button engines(everybody has one)

I think a hot rodded 6 and an OD would be a perfect package ---
