Possible Soft-top Supplier

I have been looking for a decent soft-top and realized that they are not around. In my searches I found this article about a 1972 with a nice looking CAN-BACK top.

http://www.fourwheeler.com/featuredv..._chevy_blazer/

I contacted Can-Back and was told that the interest for this top has been growing and they might be doing a run of tops in the first quarter of '08

I spoke to Bryon and he said if they get enough interest they would build sooner!

I have never seen one of these tops until today, if you have let us know, or if your interested in one contact them, maybe we can get a group purchase?

Re: Possible Soft-top Supplier

Several people have contacted them in the past about making tops. They said that they are working on prototypes and they will have production units available 6 months for at least 4 years. One guy got the truth out of them and they had not started, nor did they ever intend to start, a model for the first generation Blazer. Since that time however, the primary source has gone out of business.

I guess the moral of the story, don't hold your breath.

Re: Possible Soft-top Supplier

Hi Bouncytruck,

When I spoke to Bryon out there, he said that the comapny was sold and when the new owners took over some of the tooling was -- ahem-- "missing"
If you look at the link to the off-road article i posted above, they had a top at some point for the 69-72 series.

He said there has been increasing interest and they would have to remake the tooling if enough people where looking.

I personally have never seen their top or heard of them until I spent some time surfing. Hopefully they may get alot of interest from us.

Does anyone know of anyother custom maufacturers of Blazer soft tops??

Re: Possible Soft-top Supplier

There may be enough demand now that STC has gone under.

bestop is the only manufacturer at this point.

Yup, that top in the pictures was a "one-off". I will chime in with don't hold your breath.

Also, are all (any) of the people who say they are interested willing to pay over 1K for a soft top?????

Re: Possible Soft-top Supplier

We are a Bestop Dealer and could always help out on a group purchase if anyone is truly interested. Our primary distributor has quit handling the blazer tops for these years due to sales. but we use others as well. Bestop has Minimum pricing for all their products so anyone can only sell for so low of a price. They are not inexpensive.

Re: Possible Soft-top Supplier

My Bestop Tiger top (in Black) was less than $700 new a few months back. Fit's not great by any means, but it sure beats no top (my previous condition) in our weird Texas Gilgamesh-like flood rains lately. I hated spending that much for something I hope everyday to not be required to use. Unfortunately, it's been on since I installed it.

My install write-up, if your interested, is here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=230909

Re: Possible Soft-top Supplier

If you can buy one for less than $750. buy it. Anyone caught selling new ones less than MVP pricing will lose dealership. Thats to keep people from undercutting legitimate dealers.

Was there a recent price increase? I bought from Clemson 4X4 and got that link from the Bestop website list of authorized dealers. I just double checked my files and I paid $701.17 which included the shipping. This was back in early March of this year.

Re: Possible Soft-top Supplier

You pretty much got it at the mvp price. $700-$750.00. Not a bad deal for what they cost. More and More companies are going to mvp pricing. Really most MVP pricing is jobber cost or real close to it. It applies to all companies large or small.

I was at a 4X4 show today and the guy at bestop said that they will only make the top for 1969-1972 for 2 more months so if I wanted one I had better order it soon they will be no more.

I guess that the demand just isn't there anymore. That says to me that our trucks are becoming more rare on a daily basis.

If you can even find a used one, I'd say grab it. The hardware and bows are the most difficult part to create. You can use the old vinyl as a template if needed.

Re: Possible Soft-top Supplier

My blazer came with a best top. Not sure of the age of the top but it was old enough that I have had new windows put in to replace cracked ones, new velcro sewn on around the front windows and have added 2 additional straps per window so I can drive highway speed with the windows rolled up safari style not worrying about them flying open. Downfalls -the snaps are kind of a pain (especially when it is cooler out and the vinyl doesn't want to stretch) and the top is more water resistant than waterproof. Upside- it comes off in a matter of minutes and all the hardward folds away fairly neatly and quickly. The top at the start of this thread looks like it may have extra supports, which may mean it is harder to take apart. I would not hesitate to get another best top.

As a side note, I curse the day that I had a bikini top made for me. I bought the blazer to run it with the top off but thought I should get a bikini for the days that the sun is too hot. Now that I have used the bikini, I find myself using it all the time. I use it on the hot days that the sun is trying to melt me, the highway days to keep the wind from making my hair stand on end and sadly on the days that I am too lazy to take 3 minutes to remove it. Sadly the bikini has been a great addition this summer to the enjoyment of my blazer.

Can you post up some pics of your bikini top at some point? I don't think I have seen it.

Can you or someone else verify what the sales rep told you? If it's true, then all of us without BestTops best be making arrangements to get one (or more) ASAP!

Earlier in this thread, it was mentioned that a group purchase might be possible. Anyone interested in that solution?
