Hello,
I have a factory sbc/ 4 speed 67 c-10. I plan on putting a 396 bbc. I have searched the forums and some say little mods some say drop right in? The 396 has a impala oil pan so I think there wouldnt be clearence issues there, i have a bbc 72 c-10 z bar. I think these will be the only issues i will have. Do i need bbc engine stands or can I reuse all the sbc mounts?

I see alot off the previous clearence questions were with 4x4's so i am making sure

From what I've read, it should drop right in with the proper engine mount towers. I'll be tackling the same project this winter with a 68 S&W and a 454. Maybe we can help each other through the hard stuff.

Ive heard that the sbc mounts will work with the bbc, i wanted to know before I pulled the 350 out... either way truck needs a new engine and a good running 396 for $400 is hard to pass up

I strongly recommend the BB mounts and towers. Exhaust can be a real bear without the proper towers. I prefer the 72 only towers. GM went to this style exclusively in 73. The towers are expensive but the mounts are cheap.

I think someone had a set listed about 2 weeks ago. Don't know if they sold or not.

I think the clearance problems are also present with 2wd.

You can modify the sbc mount to work with the 68/71 tower. Search for a thread by TexasFirefighter. The 68/71 bb mount is very expensive and Tex showed a way to avoid that cost by using a modified sb mount.

i have heard that the bbc and sbc have diff motor positions according to distance from firewall. if i use bbc mount wouldnt I have to move the 4 speed crossmember back and get the drive shaft shortend?

ok this is what you do. if you wanna retain the sbc mnounts youre gonna have to modify your towers. i did this swap and asked the same questions a while back and i got a bunch of different awnsers. i just modified my towers instead of buying differentones. and retained my sbc mounts. once you modify your mounts place the engine where it best fits already connected to the tranny. its quite simple
