Timing Light
Is there a timing light that will show you what the timing is on the timing light itself?

I've never heard of one. It would have to have some sort of bar code type reader that could read the marks on the timing bracket and the harmonic balancer and then somehow compute it to a numerical number that we could read.
Probably would be priced beyond my means if some one ever invented one.  New vehicles have it built in though....

There are timing lights that let you dial in the advance on the light and adjust the dizzy until the balancer mark is zero. I think I saw one at Advance Auto. I've used a Snap-On 20 years ago so I know they still make them.

Sears sells an advance mode timing light for around $69.00. It is the same one that I purchased years ago for aobut the same price. Mine works great. Set the advance dial to what you want the timing to be in degrees and when the dizzy is adjusted right the timing will be at zero on the harmonic dampener.

Not to change the subject but just today while cleaning my motor I found that the distributor was loose. How I need to set the timing and would to like to know what to set it at and any other info on how to do it. Which plug to use and how to decide which one that is and if I should plug the vacumn adjust. Sorry but new truck to me and haven't adjusted timing in many years. Thanks for any help !!!!

First thing you need to do is plug the vaccum advance, then you need to plug into the #1 hole; facing the engine with the fan towards you the numbers go from the rights side back 1,3,5,7 and on the left 2,4,6,8 . I think a factory 350 is supposed to run about 6 degrees advance. My truck is slightly cammed with some other mods and I run at 8 degrees.

It's almost the same as what you described. It doesn't automatically read the timing but you can get better accuracy than a normal light. Just increment the reading on the light until your current timing reads zero on the tab without adjusting the distributor. Then your adjustment on the light is what's set.
