Here's a 205 question.
Did some wheeling today after I replaced the axle u-joint and spindle bearing on the short side, just to make sure all was well. Everything worked well until I went to 4low. The front would spin, but not the rear...? So I backed off, cycled the shifter, this time with a little more muscle. Same thing happens. So repeat of the cycle, and the rear engages. I have never had the front engage, but not the rear, on anything, much less a np 205. Some times the 205 must be encouraged to go into 4low, but once in, it is either in or out. Any thoughts? How can the front axle only turn in 4low?

Re: Here's a 205 question.
I'd guess the shifter relay rods are bent/lose/worn.
You are halfway to twin stick operation

Re: Here's a 205 question.
Problem solved!!!! My shifter boot was mounted a little too far back, and would not allow the shifter to go far enough forward. Moved the boot forward, and 4Low is good!!! The bezels on my 4 speed boot and the transfer boot now touch, but what the hell.
