67' Truck Build

Just thought I would start a thread on my build. Bought my truck about a month ago. Have it mostly stripped down minus the cab, bed and suspension. I will be starting with some of the body work first (patches, welding, etc...). Wish I could start with the suspension first, just don't have the $$$ to do so yet. I will be bagging it with a triangulated 4 link in the rear and I really like the C4 dropmember Porterbuilt has. Not sure if I am going to do 20's or 22's, haven't found to many pics of these trucks with 22's. If anyone has good pics please post. I am probably going with the Coys C5 polished or gun metal. Speaking of posting pictures how do you post them. It asks for a URL to post the picture. It won't let me post from my computer. I will post some pictures when I figure it out.

If you go to the [go advanced] post theres a paper clip that will let you put pictures up from your computer.

IMO, there is no reason to run 22's
You can't see the difference, cuz it's just an inch bigger across & you have just that much less tire

I have 20's & wish they were 18's, but it's all a personal choice

actually its 2 inches, and you can still have the same sidewall ratio as long as there is room.
22s can look good , but like Spray-bomb said its personal preference

I'll probably go with 20's. What is the best way to do the front inner fender wells when bagged. I want my truck to sit about an inch or so off the ground when fully deflated. Is there a way to raise the stock fender wells? I will be raising the rear fender wells and bed. I would like to keep a semi classic look. By the way this site is great. Everyone is helpful and has great ideas. Thanks!

I still dont see how 22"-20"= 1" its 2 inches bigger no matter how you measure it. 1" on each side maybe, but not total. and its only less tire if you stay with the same overall diameter, which most people dont. Not trying to start a pissing match, but your info is kinda misleading to a guy who is asking for advice.

Those trucks look sweet. I'll might go staggered that looks good. 20's in front will probably eliminate some clearance issues. Here's some pic of mine so far.

Raguemoe- Your truck looks sweet, couple of questions. What front suspension set up are you using, Dropmember or stock? Does it lay completely on the ground or just above. I want to be about an inch or so off. I like how your front wheels are straight up and down. Are the rear bags on the link bars? If so are the bars strong enough? Thanks for all you input so far. Where is Highland California at by the way?

Well I decided not to go with the drop member, just to expensive for me. Plus I want to stay about an inch or so off the ground so there is no need for it. I might still try and incorporate a rack and pinion steering.

When you say " stay about an inch or so off the ground " exactly what are you referring to? Are you talking about the frame, the rockers, or your crossmember?

In the event that you are not aware, the stock crossmember is the lowest point of your front suspension. If you lower your truck using bags and you modify the inner fenders the first thing to touch the ground will be your A-arm.


The pic below is my 82 Blazer, but it gives you an idea of what I mean....

Stock front set-up w/Art control arms. Front crossmember is 1/2" off the ground (frame about 2 1/2"). I had a custom 3-link installed in the rear. Highland is 40 miles from Orange County. Just below Big Bear! More pics

N2Trux- I want the lowest part of the truck about 1" off. I had a buddy who's truck layed frame but he also had a bag blow out while driving. I don't want it to slam on the ground(frame will be powder coated) if that were to ever happen. I am also going to use the ART arms.

Raguemoe- Thanks for the info. Like the firewall. Do you have to modify the inner front fenders or do the wheels not touch? I'll post some more pics when I get some more visible progress.

Raguemoe you truck is sweet! Can't wait till mine is that far along. What hood hinges are those. Custom fenders look great. I may do custom but I think I might try and keep the original for a semi classic look.

Fenders are made from trailer fenders and hinges are from a Mercedez car.

When combining the Dropmember with a stock spindle and a 27" tall tire, the frame-rail will set just under 2" off the ground when fully deflated. The main advantages of the Dropmember are the crossmember to ground clearance, and rack and pinion steering. It's not in everybody's budget, but it also isn't just for the guys who want to "lay frame" on 22's.

Porterbuilt- I love your dropmember. I thought one of the main reasons to use the drop member was to lay frame. I did forget that was with drop spindles. I also know it has many other advantages. I may still think about getting one, just have to decide how much I really want to spend. About how much is a complete setup minus the drop spindles. What brake setup is used. Sorry for all the questions. Thanks Tyler.
