Question about brakes.
It looks like I need a new brake booster (leaking fluid out of it). I still have drums on the front, but I will be changing to disc in the future.
My question: is there anything I should do now in preparation for the disc swap that will still work for the drums? I guess what I'm trying to say is, I don't want to do anything now that I will only have to undo when I do the swap. Keep in mind, it'll be a little while before I do the swap because other things are higher on the list of priorities. The trucks been parked for a while and I just want to make it safe for now; so far on the agenda is booster, wheel cylinders and bleeding. Master cylinder and shoes appear to be ok; anything else I should consider? Thanks in advance. Ronnie

Re: Question about brakes.
replacing the wheel cylinders can really be a pain. if you are going to disc anyway, are you sure you need to replace them?

What kind of booster is it? Hydraulic or vacuum

Re: Question about brakes.
if you're leaking brake fluid you've got a bad master cylinder// if its engine oil leaking out the booster you've got a problem with the way it's hooked up to the manifold

hopefully the pic works (I'm not too good at posting pics), figured it'd be easier to show you.

Re: Question about brakes.
i see rust straight below the master cylinder your booster is vacumm
to make sure its working right pump up the brake pedal and hold then start the truck up if the pedal drops towards the floor then its work fine if you cant get the pedal to hold then check for leaks at the wheel cylinders and master cyl. and check your brake lines (rubber) a collaspe line could cause problems

Re: Question about brakes.
the rust would be from the master cylinder leaking

Thanks for the info guys. The biggest problem is when I press it to the floor, it just stops really slow, they don't seem to grab quiet as good as they did before it was parked. I noticed the leak around the booster, so that's why I assumed it needed to be replaced. Would the cylinders be the problem with slow stopping?

Re: Question about brakes.
If your master cylinder is leaking it would allow some pressure bleed off through the back and make you have to push the pedal farther to get the wheel cylinders to apply the brakes. You would see the rust on the booster coming from the back of the cylinder.
