runs and then stalls

I finally have my truck running at idle. The only problem I am having for the time being is when I drop my truck into reverse the engine dies out on me. Any ideas?

Vacuum leak comes to mind, but you said when you drop it in reverse. Does that mean it doesn't die going into drive??? That would be a wierd one!

Re: runs and then stalls

Could use a little more info... automatic, v8, 4 barrel, etc... If automatic, check all the vacuum lines as stated.

Not sure if yours has idle advance but I had a carb that was not advancing the idle when placed in drive. It would die out on me. Problem is I don't remember what I did to fix it...

I'll look thru some of my old repair manuals...

Re: runs and then stalls

more info would be nice, but I'll throw out two common problems;
Timing not set right
idle too low.

I've seen late model fords that would die when you put it in reverse... this is mostly in the fuel injected F-150 trucks with the 4.9 inline motor... it's a sign of the tranny going out.
But, that doesn't apply here.

Re: runs and then stalls

check for cracked broken vaccume lines/ set the dwell then the timing clean and gap the plugs change air and fuel filters// thats some of the more common things required
