dropping a converted half ton

I am goin to convert my 3/4 ton 2wd truck to a half ton with leaf springs in the rear. I got lower control arms, spindles and coils of a 81 (my truck is a 70), a 12 bolt rear out of a 71 comaro and a muncie m-21 trans. If I cut about a half a coil off the front springs and take the lower to leafs off my rear and use about a 28" in tall tire how far would this drop my truck and would the be a big wheel gap in between the tops of the tires and the bottom of the fender/ qauter panels?

Re: dropping a converted half ton

If you cut 1 full ring off the front coil you will have about a 2 1/2" drop. Out back, I doubt that 2 leafs out of the stack will show you much drop. you can flip the axle over the spring, for a 5 1/2 -6 " drop......if thats too much, you can relocate the spring hangers on the frame to "adjust" your height. A couple other ways would be a 4" drop rear spring set/shackles, or cheaper, dearch the springs. If you know how low you want to be,someone here can steer you the right direction..... L

Re: dropping a converted half ton

I was thinkin about 1 or maybe 2 in lower than a stock 2wd half ton.

Re: dropping a converted half ton

If only a couple inches, you can go shackles on the rear, & maybe toss a couple leafs (like you already figured), & cut 1 full ring off the front coils. You dont want to be tempted to take out too many leafs tho.....you will get into wheel hop issues on takeoff. L
