Plans For My Truck !!!!!! And A Few Current Pics !!!!
i am not gonna be driving my truck anymore because i am going to buy a cheep car or truck to drive that is more dependable. i am going to do what i can when money allows. it wont be a show truck but it wont be a wreck either. so ill just tell ya my plans and see what ya think.
Pull the engine and check it out, if the bottom end seems ok then ill clean it up, rebuild the heads, and bolt it together. i know it only has about 5000 miles on it since a rebuild but it hasent been running much since about 92 when it was rebuilt. new cam and lifters. I have a friend thats trading me my 4-spd for a th-350 in good shape. so ill change the tranny to the 350. eaither ididit column or newer van column or something. i gotta do something cause the column in it now is shot. pull the front clip and bed and clean and paint the frame.(any paint suggestions for frame?) clean, sand and rattle can the body. i dont want to get into pulling the cab any time soon. rebuild the front end(very bad shape right now as in dangerous) and add power steering as budget allows. i have a disc/drum setup right now that has the stock master cylinder so i need to do something there. any suggestions? if i can i would like to change the rear axles to match the 5 lug front. clean, sand and paint interior and fix my seat. the seat is in excellent shape but the PO cut a big hole in the seat so the shifter wouldent hit the seat, but the fabric is still there hanging, its a clean cut, so ill add some foam and test out my sewing skills . remove the complete painless wiring harness i just installed and cut off the wires im not using. i dont know why but i wrapped them up and stuck them under the dash and it looks really bad. new gauges. (as budget allows) New bed wood or maybe weld a piece of metal in. idk yet, i like the wood but i also like the durability of metal or steel. thats it for now. i know its not a complete restore but it would (hopefully) be a nice truck to just drive and would be halfway dependable. i know i love driving these trucks because EVERYBODY seems to look in amazement. knowing the way my truck looks now i dont know if there thinking "i wish i had that truck" or if there thinking "get that thing off the road". eaither way its fun as hell. lemme know what yall think. sorry its so long but i just wanted to get everything in. im including a couple current pics i just took. this is how it sits now, i feel sorry for it. the timing is way off and its missing on #5 because of a bad lifter. thanks, John

Re: Plans For My Truck !!!!!! And A Few Current Pics !!!!
Sounds good !! I bet you are glad you didnt give up on your truck .
Mine has been done on a budget, or like you said as buget allows, Ebay, swap meets craigslist, and any other place I can wheel and deal. So far the paint , pinstriping, and disc brake kit are the only things I didnt get a "deal " on ( ok maybe the 627.00 paint job ) But I agree with what you are planing. Thats the best thing to do : make a plan decide what you must do, want to do, and would like to do. Going full resto, restomod ,ratrod, hotrod , lowride , or in my case Lowroder , decide now before you start. Stay motivated ,and keep up the good work.

Re: Plans For My Truck !!!!!! And A Few Current Pics !!!!
I would say keep the wires you THINK you might not need as of now, but just wrap and hide them better.
Also, dont go over your head and dont go over your budget. If you do those things you will be less likely to complete it cuz you will have dumped too much money in it and you will not be motivated when you get stuck trying to do something. Like sal said... stay motivated cuz its a long process. Typically, nothing is ever as easy as it seems. Good luck man! |
