What's it worth?
There is a guy close by that has an early to mid 50's chevy, the body on it is awesome considering it's age, not to sure about anything else like frame/motor. I talked to the guy, he said he wasn't interested in selling it because someday he was going to make it into a project...You, me and him all know that will never happen, it's been there for a few years. My question is, what is a truck with a good body worth? This is in canadian dollars, I was going to take 2 grand with me, start low and then if I have to, offer 2 grand for it. Am I a low baller?

Re: What's it worth?
I bought a '50 Chevy 3100 near Red Deer for $1000 a few years ago. No motor and the body was in decent condition but far from perfect. Even if the body looks good you will likely find rust.

Re: What's it worth?
I always use a reverse budget, determining what the total cost will be when the project is finished. Don't forget overruns, changes in plan, and increase in parts and labor. If you need a starting point go down and price a 2008 SWB pick up, at least when it is finished and 3 years old you will still have most of your investment, unlike the 2008 that is now three years old and depericated..............

Re: What's it worth?
I paid tooooo much! $3600.00 Cda. in 96.
BTW 70.000 original miles, no serious body work, all original tin purchased (rust repair none as there was no rust) from original owner. I spent a few thousand more since I purchased it but the truck was worth it. esll.

Re: What's it worth?
To make a long story short, someone I know(this guys neighbor) asked what he wanted for the truck because he finally wanted to get rid of it, and he told them he would trade them straight across for their beaumont...The beaumont is all original with tiny spots of rust...Probably worth 10 grand at least...So to clarify, this guy thought his old rusty, non-running chevy was a fair trade for a beaumont that is in awesome condition...I'm glad I didn't offer him 2 grand, because I wouldn't be able to hold in my laughter as he told me how much he thinks it's worth.

If I did that I would NEVER even start a project. hehe. I am scared to death to add up the cost on my 52 chevy car. I told myself I would do it one day though.

The best one was a more door 54. It was rusted had a tree growing out the front and someone had built a garage behind it. The guy wanted 5k for it and I had to have it removed. I was like how would I get it out of here short of a helicopter? The guy said he got offered 5k for it all the time but now he was ready to sell. I could not tell if he was serious or not so I said thank you...I will think about it all the while laughing inside. A few more wanted WAY too much too...the one I ended up buying the guy wanted 1500 for it. I offered him an old dirt bike that I had. he said no...but then a few weeks later he called me and said he would take the deal. I bought one of my 55s for 500, one for 1200, and a 52 chevy truck I had given to me and I sold it to fund the shortbed 52. Shop around if you are buying a project. You can find them for cheap. A lot of people buy a project and get in over there head and you can pick those up cheap. Also, this may sound mean but it is the truth...around tax time and christmas time a lot of projects get sold too. I sort of felt bad about buying parts and projects around that time but realized that even though it is sad that you are buying something that someone does not want to get rid of you are helping them out by buying it. ebay, the hamb, hotrod.com, old skool rod forums and various other forums are great places to find projects. sorry for rambling!
