any bad experiances with bridgestone tires?

the other day, i was on the highway going about 70mph with my k10, and the tread from my tire completely seperated from the tire... like the way a retread does on a semi tire. it was the most insane thing thats ever happened to me while driving.

it felt like i hit 30 feet of speed bumps going 70... and then it was smooth again, and as the tread seperated it ruined the box, tailight, brand new sport bumper i put on, and scared the sh*t out of me. the wierdest thing is the tire still held air.. and i probobly could have driven it home... but i called the towtruck anyway.

it was a 32x11.50x15 bridgestone dueller a/t like new tread and the tire looked new, but it was 4 years old... lucky it didnt ruin my new m/t classic II's

this ever happened to anyone?

i'll get pics as soon as i get home (left for vacation the day after this happened)

had it happen to me twice, but the tires wer a few years older than that... still not acceptible IMO.
I've had firestones do the same thing. You'll never see either of them on my vehicles again.

Bridgestone = Firestone

Bridgestones are the higher end tires from the same parent company last I knew. I've seen a 15" firestone on a passenger car (front end) that took out the fender - car didn't hit anything. Maybe they should have recalled more tires than they did?

Re: any bad experiances with bridgestone tires?

Duellers are s*** tires i've had one 33x12.5x15 blow under the rear of my truck 6 months after they were brought new, the other side blew 3 months later. Mind you this was one a two lane highway at about 60mph - 360's 720's not fun at all. The front tyres also developed bubbles in the side walls.

I've had BFG Long Trails Front and BFG All Terrains rear ever since no problems at all. My truck is a daily driver and these tyres have been on it for nearly 5 years now.

Re: any bad experiances with bridgestone tires?

I'm running Bridgestone on my Dodge (a version of Duallers) They are OK, but as was mentioned Bridgestone=Firestone. I have not had problems with Bridgestone in the past (when I lived in Japan, before they were bought by Firestone). I know I'll never buy Firestone, and I am pretty sure after this set the same will be true for Bridgestone. There quality has gone way down since being under Firestone.

Re: any bad experiances with bridgestone tires?

I've run Michelin's for years, never had a problem. Wife's Jeep has Wranglers, I'm not too impressed with them. 30,000 miles and they're about shot. Not rtying to jack the thread, but what's the best tires you've owned?

Re: any bad experiances with bridgestone tires?

I'm pretty sure that Bridgestone bought Firestone, not the other way around.

At any rate... I have Bridgesone Revos on the Grand Cherokee, with zero problems. They are as good as their reputation and are fantastic in the wet, with no hydroplaning, and wet cornering grip is nearly as good as dry. My only complaint is their tread life, which isn't bad but is barely half that of the Michelin LTX A/Ts that I had on the Jeep.

All things considered, my vote for best tire goes to Michelin -- I've never had a bad experience with them (my first set was in 1967). I have BFG All Terrains on the K20 and so far, so good (BFG is now owned by Michelin).

Re: any bad experiances with bridgestone tires?

got a friend that works at the Firestone ag/ind. tire here in Des Moines. He will NOT put Firestones on his truck. Bridgestones are completly different, and he will use those, but prefers Goodyears.
