year question
I thought I knew a little about these trucks, but I guess I don't. I thought that 67-68 didn't have side markers, but this is a 67-68 truck (know that much). So is this not the orginal bed or am I wrong about the marker lights? Man this thing is straight, couldn't see any rust except the rockers, and 61,000 miles. I also didn't know they offered the chrome trim for back glass that year. Man I've got alot to learn.
automatic, V8, all original, what's it worth?

It's a 68.
67 had no lights on the side, 68 did. They were actually reflecters. Lights only seem to have been avalible on the cab chassis. |

67 doesn't have markers but 68 does. i would say 3 or 4 thousand

The grey hub caps and the way the entire top of the cab is painted also say 68.
Is it in running condition? Which V8 does it have? It looks like it could be a Custom. It looks to be in pretty nice shape. I'd say around 2 grand or more depending on condition of mechanicals and interior.

Yea I was thinking it could be a 50th if the area below the trim was white. (Off-white actually) It should have parchment/gold seats too if it is. It looks like the right color for a 50th although there were some similar colors to that in 68.

Purs, Man I hate you. That is exactly the platform I want, for a future bagged beauty. It looks like you have a nice truck. I think that the truck is worth a pretty penny, but if someone really wants it you could prolly drag some cash out of someone; but remember, we're a family here so you got to be generous. Nice truck and good luck. Hope you continue to learn as I will.

Is there a way (vin # or something) for me to tell if this is a 50th? For everyone that has contacted me, I don't have the details yet, but if it's reasonable I'm going to try and buy it, if it's too high for me I'll pass along all the info I've gathered to all interested parties.

Oh, my bad, I thought you were selling it. Yeah, you can run the vin's and find out what options it came with, paint code, pretty much everything it had out the door. But I don't know how, some other people can tell you. just post it or PM it someone. Come on everyone can you help him with his crisis?

A 1968 50th Anniversary Truck would have the following codes on the Glove Box Data Sheet
Paint code of 551 (Anniversary Gold/Off White) And Interior/Trim code of 625 (Gold/Parchment) Kind of looks like the 68 Saddle color from the pics. What is the drive train?

The paint code is 550 if memory serves. It should also have parchment/gold seats as I mentioned before. Upon looking at that 2nd picture it looks more like that light brown color not 50th gold.

Most likely its a 555 Saddle-Off White Truck. 50th's trucks had a white roof and a white ban around the bottom of the truck. Only the 50th Suburbans had just the white top according to 68Suburban.
Never the less nice looking truck, it could be a twin to mine only yours is in better shape. Ej |

I paid $500 for my truck in just about the same exterior condition and mine said 61000 on the odometer too with the big block, CR 4 speed, 50th anniversary package and air conditioning. Think about it though. Do you really think that 61,000 means 61,000 ? I'm not sure how the market is in Missouri but I'd say more than $1600 would be a pretty big stretch of the wallet for a truck in that overall condition in these parts. Do some shopping around and never impulse buy a truck. I looked for 2 years before I found the truck I wanted to use as a base for a "restoration".

*UPDATE* Finally was able to contact the the owner, a 70 year old lady whose husband bought the truck new in 68 for $2552, according to her. Two reasons she doesn't really want to sell, 1)the grandchildren have been unwilling to let the truck go and 2) her son still uses it about once or twice a week to do some work on their farm. Although, she said she would give it some serious thought after she talked to her son. So I guess I'll be waiting to hear from her.....I'm more interested in a crew cab project or blazer if anyone can help me find one.

Okay, I know where there is a truck sitting. I called the guy about it, he said make him an offer. I want to now. Its rough as hell. But I can grab it for cheap then work to make it SUPER CLEAN. Its at an auto body shop sitting behind it. The guy said it had a 4.3 L Diesel??? Does this exist? Is it just like a v-6, only diesel? Can someone tell me what I should offer him? And enlighten me about the motor? Thanks. Oh what made me think of it, was I went to pick up my new glasses where I used to live and saw it today. And you all are talking about gold trucks with white tops, which describes this truck.

Yes the later Chevy cabs were painted similar to that 68.
I meant compared to a 67. The 67's two-tones were painted just on the top-back of the cab with the A pillar being the body color. If I weren't surfing the net out of a motel room on my laptop at a blazing 16.800bps I'd post a picture

now that someone else pointed that out...
My '67 is white on top(though '68 style as you guys have said)/ red/ and white again below the trim. and white on the grill. was this setup ever an option, I know the truck was repainted shortly before I bought it...

If you really like that Gold 68 truck, My advice would be to make a cash offer. (Cash in Hand) About the only way to sway away the truck in a situation like that is to give the owner the perspective of the Cash verses a truck she can't drive. Cash Talks, BS walks.

No that would not be a stock 67 paint combo. It sounds sharp though! I have never seen a 67 or 68 white below the trim except the 68 50th edition.

Oh, I must have been badly mistaken. Oops... See, I've still got a lot to learn at the little undriving driving age of 15. Crappers.(Crappers... thats me trying to be a good little boy, since Santa's coming soon, I would like to recieve something better than a bag of coal) I was under the impression you could research like everything just by the vin; I thought you could find out what engine/tranny combo, interior, options, etc. Is that only on new cars or am I misinformed about that too?
