Motor and tranny shot...was wondering was the newest 350/454 engine i could go with before i would need to get different electrical stuff like computer etc. This is still up in the air would love to restore that bad boy. Think its worth it? Any have a 454 in theres? if so whats the MPG look like? This wouldnt be a daily commuter either way lol.

Nice truck and color if you can fix that dent.

You could put a 98' 350 Vortec in there as long as you got carb manifold and standard HEI distributor for it.

For the newest big block, the Vortec 8100 496 motors MAY work. I'm not too knowledgeable on these but i'm leaning towards the fact that you can probably put a carb intake and standard HEI on it. They do have a 4/7 swap cam, which means 4 and 7 are swapped in the firing order, you would just have to switch those 2 plug wires.

I saw that ad. I like how he describes it as fast even though it has no motor. Personally I would buy a SWB if I wanted a 2wd hot rod.

Nothin wrong with hopping up a LWB. Mines a daily driver and will be getting a 350-400HP motor. Of course I won't be taking it to car shows and such, it's just for my personal enjoyment and transportation. Stock ride height, 15 inch wheels...you get the picture.

Ha ha, I started laughing when I read that.

At least for me, I could not buy anything that is located in one place and have to send the money to a buyer who is somewhere else.

On a side note, if you are willing to take a drive, check out the Austin CL. Frome time to time there will be a decent deal on there. I know there have been a couple on there recently that I would have loved to pick up, but didn't want them to end up sitting around for a few years with nothing done to them like my previous one.

I have had a few 454 powered trucks -- 12 mpg is possible on a good day --- the 350's are not that much better (if at all) with similar tranny and rearend treatments.

A stock 454 beats a stock 350 hands down, but they usually cost a little more.
Anything up to the fuel injected era will work without having to swap in a computer. If you get a motor from an 80's vintage truck that is complete, the stock quadra -junk carb may not be usable though

Hey theres nothing wrong with a lwb track in a carshow. that what i do every saturday and heres the truck.

come on you know you want to show it off. I do only casue i like the people reaction when they see my truck go sideways and smoke everywhere. Cause for somereason i think they see my truck a a big turd. it might have to do with it being brown tho.

haha too late ran across a 89 suburban for 700 bucks....body all intact and been painted sliver. No dents nor scratchs on her. Interior needs deep cleaning for the carpets. But all seats and panels are there expect for one headliner. It only needed a rebuilt tranny but after trying to drive it home in 2nd gear it overheated and now started knocking after i flushed the system out so i guess a block and tranny is going in for her. Was weird that the fill tank was filled up and blew the cap off when it overheated...never seen that b4. Will def. have alot of FAQ on this baby so be prepared lol Will try to get pics asap
