Oh well, I wanted a cowl hood anyway....

I finally shot my base/clear about a month ago, after working off and on on my truck for years. This was the first time I've ever actually shot the paint myself, after having watched my Dad shoot single stage for as long as I can remember. With that in mind, be kind about the orange peel you are about to see

We have had the hood stored standing upright for as long as I've owned the trucks, 8+ years. I shot the base and clear with the hood hanging from the ceiling, then stood it back upright, out of the way after it was dry. It is amazing how little wind it takes, blowing through the shop, to tip a hood over onto its top, and crunch the whole center rib in. My Dad laughed and said it would be worth the $400.00 that a cowl hood costs to not have to color sand all the orange peel.

The remaining pics show the sanding in process, and the pics of the tailgate and bedside are partially buffed and polished, so we could see if we were wasting our time.

Re: Oh well, I wanted a cowl hood anyway....

You guys are all too kind about my paint job, but did you tie the title of the post to the first pic of the hood? When it fell, it rippled the center rib of the hood all the way from front to cowl. The reflection makes it hard to tell the extent of the damage, but it looks like someone took a hammer to it. Here is another pic, from a different angle. When it fell, we just laughed and had another beer.
