Hi all. I have a 65' c10 that came with a mid 70's bed. I just bought a 64' GMC, a little rough but bed fenders are in good shape. After doing some checking, I measured the bed dimensions from the 70's and the 64' and found them to be the same. My question is: would there be any draw backs or problems that anyone knows of, of putting the 64' fenders on the 70's box. My 70's box is in 10 times better shape than the rotted out one on the 64'. Can it really just be drilling holes in the 70's box to match the older fenders?

Any input would be great. Sorry I don't pics of them both, I will get them soon.

Info on the 65': 65 c10, lowered 2" in front 3" in back. 400 sbc w/T10 4 speed. Fat 15" tires in back, spins them when I want it too.

Come on guys, somebody has to know about these things. Hasn't anyone tried this before? I really think the stepside bed boxes are exactly the same (for a certain number of years) besides the fenders, but I'd really like some input here.

I would also check the dimensions of the mounts underneath. to me it seems that would be the critical factor. if the frame width is the same and if i didn't have to drill/mod the frame (or the underside of the box) too much to get a much better box in place then i'd go for it. just my 2c worth. good luck man!

Actually, the box is already on the truck. It's a 70's bed on a 65' truck. I just want to remove the fenders from the 70's bed and put 65' fenders on it.

Yes I believe the bed itself is the same but the mounting holes for the fenders will probably be different. Your fenders will bolt on but you may have to drill some holes and will have some to fill also.

I agree, the bedsides should be the same. Just have to drill some new holes.

Boy, this sure would make changing the bed much easier, lot less body work to do. Thanks for the help, I will post pics soon.

Where in Indiana are you?
I think in the FAQ there's a thread on putting 67-72 sides on a 73 + stepbed.Take a look at that,it should give you an idea on what it would take to put 60-66 sides on a 73+ bed.

I'm in Northwest Indiana, Lowell area. Where are you from? Thanks for the info, I will see if I can find that post. The 70's stepside that I have does have one difference, the front posts on the sides of the bed, running from the top of the bed down, right above the step itself, is shorter. That's because the step on the 70's bed is a different design, but I could certainly replace that with a NOS piece. Still better than doing all the body work on the rusty bed.... Thanks again.
