Looking at a 5 need some help
hi,
Looking at a 56 for a father/son/son project. Owner says it has a orginal V8 that is not a chevy motor? Maybe poncho motor 349? Did not say what trans it has. We are hoping for a manual 3 on the colum. Was the hydro matic availible in a stepside GMC with a V8? Also where is the commen rot areas? Cab corners, door bottoms, front cab mounts, fame? Thanks for all help Would be a father/ son /son drive and fix project Sorry the "six" key is busted on my comp Last edited by bucket o bolts; 08-08-2007 at 11:22 AM. |

Re: Looking at a 5 need some help
Yes they were. The GMC's had Pontiac motors. The bottom front corners can rot out, when water coming through the cowl vent drains into the bottom corner and can plug up the drain holes with leaves and dirt not letting the water drain out. Also I've seen door hinge pockets rot out.

Re: Looking at a 5 need some help
GMC had a Pontiac V8 that came with a std 3 column and a hydromatic.
Either way a GMC with the stock V8 is a relitively rare truck not your every day 56. The GMC v8 was an actual truck engine not a warmed over car engine. |
