column swap - ignition switch?

Swapping in an 83 column with a good ignition switch and key.
Would it be better to use this switch or keep the original in the dash?
I'm planning to remove the column shifter since I have B&M floor shifter in place. Is there a clean way to remove both the column shifter handle stub and lock cylinder if I decide to remove both?
Any suggestions appreciated.

Re: column swap - ignition switch?

One advantage of having the key up on the column is the locking steering wheel. That and the original key switches on our trucks tend to wear and after a while you can turn the switch with anything. I'm still running the switch on the dash, with a later (I think mid-70's Buick) tilt column. It doesn't have the key switch on the column but it does still have the whole for the shifter in it. Van steering columns, I believe 70's and early 80's don't have the switch.
