In line Fuel Pressure Reg.
72 3/4 ton Chev with 350. Replacing the engine and noticed that there is a fuel pressure regulator inline to the Carb. I'm replacing the intake and installing a Carter 625 Carb. Do I still need the old pressure regulaor? Was it Orig? or maybe an add on?
Thanks! |

With a carb. you should not need a regulator, if your fuel pump is stock. If the fuel pump is a high pressure fuel pump then the regulator is probably reducing the pressure down to a usable 6-9 psi for your carb. Talk to a local parts house if the truck is stock and find out if it was original to the truck.

I disagree. Most aftermarket carbs will flood with any psi greater than 6. A regulator is a good idea for your Carter. Some stock pumps put out as much as 10-15 psi, and that would do some major damage to your carb. Not to mention that the engine won't idle right because it will run way too rich half flooding all the time.

Cant argue there. Just need to make sure your pressure is right around 6 psi. Any higher and you will need a regulator. Good idea to replace the old one. Anything 30 years old has got to go bad SOONER or later.
