Tightening down the bolt on harmonic balancer
Whats a good way to tighten down the bolt on the balancer? The engine is in the truck.
Thanks

Re: Tightening down the bolt on harmonic balancer
I use a 2x4 and a BFH to drive it on, then torque the bolt down.

Re: Tightening down the bolt on harmonic balancer
I used the installer after the 2x4 trick went awry the last time. As for the bolt, try a strap wrench on the balancer and tq the bolt. Or impact gun.

Re: Tightening down the bolt on harmonic balancer
buy or make an installer !! driving it on with a hammer will only destroy the main bearings . i made one from welding a damper bolt to a piece of 3/4" threaded rod . lube up a stack of washers and take your time . as for the torque on the bolt , never use and ipact to install it , its fine threaded and you can easily strip it out .only tighten it when you know the balkancer is fully seated .most stock bolts are not very long and only grab a few to several threads especialy with aftermarket pulleys .with the pulley bolted, take a pick or scribe ,feel the threads and measure to get the longest bolt you can use . places like napa , ace or fastenal can get you the grade 8 fine threaded 7/16" bolt . ive gained up to 1/4" - 3/8" of threads .ived saved a couple motors where the threads have been stripped out and the crank was thought to be ruined .
