newer style bed?

Hey all,
Im still without a short bed on my 67 C-10 and very low on money. I have an offer from a guy to buy a 94 chevy fleetside short bed really cheap. Will it fit and does anyone have any pics of how bad this may look?

i did this on my 72 lwb only because my original bed got hit hard in a wreck, they dont look that bad. you can take that body line a curve it up to match the cab ... thats what i did.... but imo it wont look as good as the original,, i hunted for three years to get an original bed, and had to drive to arizona to get it... id save a get an original bed.... but the 94 may work for now ........just my two censt

oh its not a direct bolt on either, i made plate and welded them to the late model bed as to save my 72 frame

seen one, and personally I thought it looked real bad... even worse than the step side late model... I suspect this was with a lot of work to make it close to being right.

Go work at the local 7/11 for a few months...and you will have it.

You could put together a whole new bed for about $2,000.

When I was in the Navy...I started delivering Pizzas. I could make about 400 extra bucks each weekend in tips and mileage..they do it a bit differently now...but the tips are still there.

Now i do websites for a little extra crazy cash.

Yeah I have decided against the newer bed for sure. Gettin to the point where she is almost drivable and wanted the bed before takin it out on the road but I can go bedless for a bit while I save for the proper short fleet bed.

One of the other detractors is the difference in wheel openings. The later style isn't rounded like our trucks. Custom Classic truck magazine featured one several years ago, stock-bodied, but with the wheel openings from the 88-98 body style in place of the stock round ones. The truck had extensive modifications, many of them subtle, but the wheel openings looked good....because they matched on both sides and at both ends.

Speaking of wheel openings,I saw this,a first for me:

I like that bed on`73+ better than on 67-72s.`88+ beds modernize ours too much.Yet,give the newer trucks an older look,IMHO.(with newer stuff )

I agree, they dont look right on the 67-72's but look pretty good on the square bodies...

people seem to think that step side bed looks good on anything. I've seen them on 55 second series trucks, 60 - 66, even on a ford once!

I agree,but I really do think the "Sportside" bed looks better on an 81-87 than on an`88-up that they came from.It shrinks down the back 1/2,I think,since the cabs are so boxy.

ahhh... sometimes you don't have the money to go out and spend 2500 on a new bed, i have saw a late model shortfleet on an 68 one time and i kinda liked it, (I have a 96 step on my truck and I wouldnt trade it for a factory fleet or step for that matter) the wheel openings do bother me but other than that i really like the way they look my first truck love back in 94 was a 71 with a 88step bed on it, vette lights, molded wheel well's, LT1 5 speed, and all thought i have grown out of the vette lights i have been on a steady misson to build that truck over again.....
if you could get it cheap i'd throw it on there until ya get the money to get the bed ya want, i mean it doesnt have to stay on it could be neat to play around with, id try if i had a new project and i could one cheap

well, if you go to my profile, you can see what one of our trucks looks like with a stepside on it from around that year. its a 1990 model to be exact. i think it looks pretty good. all the lines are strait, and sits really nicely on it. however, i didnt realy like the newer fleetside beds on our model trucks. so if you can find a stepside bed from that year, it would look good, but i wouldnt go with the fleetside. well, hope this helps.

My '96 has a sportside bed on it. It's a regular cab and doesn't look to be out of proportion. The extended cabs don't look as balanced, in my opinion.

I had never seen one on a square body. Doesn't look bad. One change to that combo would be to replace the rubber pads with billet aluminum. Maybe a person would get them painted/powder-coated to match the paint and the indentations would blend in better, from an aesthetic viewpoint. I'm gonna pull the side trim off of my truck and replace the step pads with billet. But I'm gonna leave the sportside bed on the '96. If I put a stepside bed on the '69, it will be the correct one. I don't see that happening.

The 55-56 shown shows much mods, and it looks good.

wow looks like I opened a can of worms on this one. Well for now just to have a bed on the truck I may end up getting that bed but it wont stay on there I couldnt leave my truck that ugly forever. Just long enough to piece together a new one since a used shortbed fleet out here is impossible to find without major rust and rot.

ahh this thread could go on forever with people arguing about it, lol but i would just grab that fleet until you get the bed you want.....just a question do you plan on painting or primering the truck with the late model fleet on it?

Im planning on going with flat black until I get the correct bed on the truck then once everything is finally how I want it Ill go for the paint. Flat black primer is rather forgiving it seems and hopefully this will help hide my ugly bed choice for a while lol.
