What is this?

Hey everybody, i was wondering if any of the fellow Caddy swap members or a person that knows a bit about Caddilac engines can tell me what the heck this thing is or does. it hooks directly into each head. I don't have a clue as to what it is.

thanks in advance

I don't think just plugging it is enough. Inside the head in the exhaust port is a little hole where that tube blows air intho the exhaust to help with reburn. Those have to be plugged too.
As for the outside, I heard that a dime is about the right size and welds in nicely.
Everyone interested in cad engines should relly get ahold of the BIG INCH CAD BOOK
It has all the info you need to do most anything to the cad, and all the info to give to your machinist when the time comes.

Look down the side for books. There's only one.
It's really for the big cad though, I don't know how much it would help with a 425. It's mostly about how to make the stroker and get the most bang for your buck out of the big cad.

Thumbs up

Thanks for all the help guys,

brennecke- do you think that rubber plug i have on there now would be sufficient? i tried taking the plugs out but they seem to be rusted on or something

Drecarious and GrungyCoin-for some reason it looks pink on my monitor too? but it's really Fire Engine Red

Yesterday was a good day, i finally got to fire the Money Pit up,she hit on the second revolution and fired right up.runs like a champ (neighbors probably weren't too thrilled with the open exhaust) you can definately tell that there is something lurking under the hood that isn't a SBC or BBC

anyway heres a pic of the front of the motor with the belts and fan put on

That last pic is the vacuum controlled heater flow doo-dad.
When there is vacuum applied, it will allow the water to flow through the heater core.
I'd take it off and plug it. If you want to use it for heater hose, get a heater hose fitting and remove the vacuum thingy. Hopefully it isn't rusted in there for life.

part of the cadilac climate control if you're not using the cadillac system you don't need it.

Gotta say I don't know about rubber plugs. If they're already in there, then maybe. Isn't there a pump that connects to the heads somewhere? I'll have to look at my Eldo and see. I don't have that on my 425, and that's what I'm tearing down now.

Thumbs up

thanks for all the help,

so that is a vacuum controlled heater flow thing? Couldn't i just remove it then and run that hose straight to my heater core Is that thing threaded into the block?

brennecke- sorry if i confused you with my reply. i meant there is a rubber plug where the AIR pump hooked to. (you can see it in the first pic, It's the thing thats circled.) I've tried to remove the pipe where it connects to the heads but it won't budge

Thumbs up straight to the core

You can run straight to the heater core.
I haven't removed mine but it looks like it's threaded into the block.
