What did you get done? 08/12

I had a pretty active weekend, and actually worked on trucks for a change. I watched my daughter play volleyball Saturday morning, then headed home to detail my wife's 03 Denali. The exterior was all cleaned up but I hadn't had time to detail the interior. I got the final touches done as a perspective buyer rolled in the driveway.

We took it for a test drive and she was really excited at how quiet it was and how well it ran. I was really excited that she wants to buy it. If she can get approved, we have a deal.

Got her done and moved on to my 77. It was 102 in the shade, but I didn't care. I had to do a quick wax and shine on the 77 because we had a date. I got him all cleaned up and loaded my neighbor and his son up and we went to the local car cruise. I guess the heat kept people in, but there were still some nice cars and trucks out.

Today I got up early and worked with my yard crew. We got the yard clipped, trimmed, pruned, and cut back. We did some repairs on my sprinkler heads, so I could turn it back on.

After that I pulled the 77 back out and took him for a tank of gas. He's back in the garage cooling off. I'm pulling the motor covers tonight so I can drop them at a buddies house. I'll keep y'all posted on what he comes up with.

Re: What did you get done? 08/12

Went and looked at new gmc's on saturday, not planning to buy at all.
Ended up bringing one home.

Ended up staying inside, so hot, then bad thunderstorms. Went and saw the "Bourne" movie sat. night, it was ok.
Sat around today looking for new stuff for my new truck. Had to call my buddy in South Florida to let him know I was going to have to pass pn the 05 SS 6.0, which still makes me cringe.
Back to the grind tomorrow.

Sheet metal, Jig saw, Primer, Paint, over and over again. Making brackets and other odds and ends for my LS1 fans, dash mounted vacuum gauge, fan relays, etc. It's basically going to be a race to get the stock motor back in this week so I can make the 250 mile trip to school. Summit RV cam should be here in a couple of days.

Re: What did you get done? 08/12

Nothing truck related except for washing my wifes Tahoe . I spent a week of vacation riding a 650 Case dozer so I have a lot of stick picking up to do . I cleared about half of my property to open things up . The major thing I got done was buying a new lawn mower . I rented the dozer for a week and the next day My CubCadet 1863 broke something in the hyd pump and stopped all together . That was the excuse I needed to buy me a new John Deere Z Trac . That thing really gets it done . Frank

Re: What did you get done? 08/12

Saturday - got in trouble with school security for laying on the gas after work on Friday, guess that made one too many cause now they wanna ban me from driving on campus for 90 days, will have to talk to the dean of students for switching that over to probation or something... all cause my car is pretty much open pipes and I keep it in 1st gear so when it revvs high folks hear the obnoxious noise and automatically assume I'm flying at interstate speeds. In the afternoon I went to my buddy's place so I can do a head gasket swap for his girlfriend, her dad wasn't at home tho so we left it off for Sunday.

Sunday - work on my bike some, girl comes from work and calls her dad, dad is down on the farm so no working on the truck again, instead I worked on my car and got rid of some emissions control equipment, don't need it anyways. Been chilling ever since

Re: What did you get done? 08/12

I replaced the rear bumper on my 84 C10 with the sport bumper off my brother's 86 K5 project... I removed the overload leaves from under the C10 also, cleaning, painting and adding new teflon liners/u-bolts/pinch-bolts in the process. Played around with a free Suzuki LT125, and went to the local circle track races Saturday night...

Sunday I made a day of shopping for school stuff with the girlfriend...

I got to make one pretty-quick pass down the road and realized, I've got to get around to replacing my Edelbrock 750 with the Holley I've been playing around with before I attempt any drag strip return...

Re: What did you get done? 08/12

I actually worked on my truck. I'm going to be swapping gas tanks, so I started unbolting the bed so I can take it off. 2 of the bolts broke, 2 came free, and the other 4 spun. I used my dremmel to cut slots into the tops of the bolts, so now I just need a helper to hold a cold-rolled chisel in the slots while I try to turn from below. While the bed is off I'm going to have to decide whether I want to go through the effort of cleaning the frame and putting some kind of rust encapsulator on it. I'm not really concerned about its appearance because it's still going to be nasty, but at least it should help prevent any additional rust until I can find time to do the frame right. At least I got to work on the truck, and it wasn't a thrash session trying to get it done before I needed it. I worked at a fun pace and really enjoyed it.

Re: What did you get done? 08/12

Put a different and much better hood on my Blazer, and cleaned up my 75's engine compartment a little bit to get ready for the big block project i have in the works.

With a 110 heat index and 103 actual -- doing much more would have been foolish for me.

Afterwards, i sat on my gazebo in a white Colonel Sanders suit drinking mint juleps for the remainder of the twilight hours

Re: What did you get done? 08/12

I undid a bunch of the stuff I did two years ago on the '77.

Pulled most of the front suspension, the headers, radiator, core support, etc. I'm just about ready to pull the engine and transmission. Then the only things left I want are the 12-bolt rear end and the cab.

I need to get rid of the frame and bed to make room for the '86 short bed. Then I can start swapping this stuff onto it.

Re: What did you get done? 08/12

Went to the Long beach carshow/swapmeet. Checked out the hotties and got a new carb. Holley 600cfm. Installed it and also replaced the air filter to a nice shinny cover. New battery. The beast sounds and runs like new. I'm exited the project has just begun.
I have a 84 c-10

Re: What did you get done? 08/12

Ran up to locab36's and picked up a nice front clip for the 87 diseased (Thanks John!). Stopped at an auction on the way home and picked up a spare core support ($5) and a rear door for a 2002 to provide donor metal to patch my '99. mowed 4 acres of lawn and vised with family up to MI from SC.

I went to Lake Country Speedway in Ardmore... Pretty good racing, they get a little carried away with the black flags though... What class do you race in?
