Re: What do yall think about super swampers
Bring earplugs. You won't be able to hear the radio or any cell calls for the most part with Swampers with the windows down. Other than that the are awesome off the road. Most Swampers don't wear too well in regular street driving, but if your not using it every day they shouldn't wear too fast.
They are one noisy tire on the street. To me they sound like a prop plane on it's takeoff roll.

Re: What do yall think about super swampers
They are a good tire but not suited for the DD.Ask in the 4wd section for the best reviews..Not driving much (or at all ) on the road they'll last though. If you dont want them,I'll take them My jimmy needs some bigger rubber

Re: What do yall think about super swampers
They are a no comprimise tire in mud and our kind og off road driving. They`ll get you there on the road. That`s what they`re for.Just good old off road tires. They`d be great on a hunting rig.I`ve run Swamper SSRs on a daily driver work truck.I love that kinda stuff on a 4wd.I don`t run around thinking my tires ride rough or are noisey. It makes me realoze all the 4wds that are out there that can`t go anywhere because they have 2wd tires for comfort.I never bought a 4wd for comfort. They make 2wds for that.

Re: What do yall think about super swampers
Agressive mud tire, bottom line. Makes alot of noise on the pavement, had um on my K-20 a few years back, followed the grooves in the pavement...but when you get to the mud they will really dig!

Re: What do yall think about super swampers
I run the exact same size swamper on a CJ 5 Jeep. The tires are not that bad at all for noise on this light vehicle. I run them at about 22 lbs on the street. Off road 8 lbs will not bulge the side wall. These are tough tires and well worth any highway set backs off road.

Re: What do yall think about super swampers
I'v had a couple sets of them. 36 12.50-15, 34 9.50-15 and Q-78/15. They all worked great off road.
But... the Q's and the 36's were a pain to balance. I had a ring of weight almost all the way around the wheel. And they still bumped at a certain speed.

Re: What do yall think about super swampers
Is that the biased style Swamper? If so, they will develop flat spots from sitting that go away after driving for a while. I have a set of 35" Super Swamper SSR's on my 69 K20 and they aren't terribly noisy. They are a mud tire so of course you do hear them.
When you run them, try to rotate them regularly and that will help considerably on how they wear.

Re: What do yall think about super swampers
my buddy has a set on his jeep cherokee, they're a little noisy on the road, but what do you expect. Off road he drops them down to 10psi and they work great!

Re: What do yall think about super swampers
The dealer told me that I would get flat spots that would take 10-15 miles to get out. The CJ is so light that I have never had any and drives the same coming and going start or finish.

Re: What do yall think about super swampers
I've been running them for years. As for flat spots mine ususally went away in 2 or 3 miles. Not bad at all. Get some balancing powder (Equal) and put a lb. bag in each tire and drive em. Worked great in mine.

Re: What do yall think about super swampers
I love my Super Swamper non-radial TSL Q78 16’s (old school nomenclature for 35.5X10.5/16). They are the best off-road tires I have ever owned. They take a beating, roll around the trails nicely with only 10 to 15 psi air pressure, handle a decent load, howl like a southern dog and tear the heck out of the mud and snow. They last a long time too! Heck, I have had mine for since 2001. Well, ok...that part is a stretch...mine roll less than 1000 miles a year and they probably have one...maybe two seasons left on them with well under 8 K on them. They see mostly off road abuse other than the highway to get there, which isn't that far in the grand scheme of things.
Yes, they are nosey and shake like crazy for a few miles till warm but they are a purpose built tire. Tread life on the pavement is not what these are about. Daily driving is not Interco’s intent for these tires. Of all the piles of style that finds it’s way into my garage the funny thing is these Super Swampers are the only tires that leave a permanent mark on my epoxy painted garage floor. Not sure what is in the composition of the rubber but there is no solvent, carb cleaner, brake cleaner, Simple Green, rubber shoe, etc, that will take the park marks off the floor.

I like mine & pretty much agree with everyones reply as far as noise & wear. They do the job they are made for well.

Re: What do yall think about super swampers
Pretty much agree with the census.
I'm on my 3rd set. (went larger but same tire) First set were 38's but uber trashed when I got em used, no way would they ever settle down for road driving. Second set were 39.5's and the the current size is 42"s. The big tires will definitely build flat spots given the opportunity. Other input I might add is about tire pressure. I run mine around @ about 10/15 psi on the streets but that's only burning through town, no highway driving. On the trail I go down to 4 psi but that's with bead locks. Good tough tire built for off road use but I say if you like em and the price was right, drive em! |
